    Abstract: Various implementations disclosed herein include devices, systems, and methods implemented by an electronic device with an imaging sensor that includes both an arrangement of first pixels and a plurality of second pixels at or near the perimeter (e.g., in a surrounding rectangle) of the arrangement. In some implementations, the second pixels, which may be larger in size than the arrangement of first pixels, can be intermittently positioned, for example, with intervening space in between groups of one or more second pixels along the side columns, top rows, or bottom rows of the arrangement. In some implementations, detected movement in a physical environment is determined to correspond to a person approaching the electronic device based on data of the second pixels. In some implementations, detecting the person approaching the electronic device initiates a user verification process at the electronic device.

    Abstract: Intelligently illuminating an environment includes receiving, at a head mounted device, information indicative of ambient lighting conditions in the environment. In accordance with a determination that the ambient lighting conditions do not satisfy a brightness criterion, one or more first illuminators on the head mounted device are activated to project light in a first spectrum. While the one or more first illuminators are activated, image data of the environment is captured. A region of interest is determined in the environment based on the captured image data, and a second one or more illuminators are activated to project light in a visible light spectrum different than the first spectrum.

    Abstract: Devices, methods, and non-transitory computer readable media are disclosed herein to repair or mitigate the appearance of unwanted reflection artifacts in captured video image streams. These unwanted reflection artifacts often present themselves as brightly-colored spots that reflect the shape of a bright light source in the captured image. These artifacts, also referred to herein as “green ghosts” (due to often having a greenish tint), are typically located in regions of the captured images where there is not actually a bright light source located in the image. In fact, such unwanted reflection artifacts often present themselves on the image sensor across the principal point of the lens from where the actual bright light source in the captured image is located. Such devices, methods and computer readable media may be configured to detect, track, and repair such unwanted reflection artifacts in an intelligent fashion, e.g., leveraging images captured with varying exposure settings.

    Abstract: Generating an image stream may include obtaining image data from a camera, identifying a first subset of the image data including a region of interest, identifying a second subset of the image data different than the first subset of the image data, processing the first subset of image data by a first processing pipeline to obtain a first processed set of image data, processing the second subset of image data by a second processing pipeline to obtain a second processed set of image data, wherein the second processing pipeline processes at a lower quality than the first processing pipeline, and combining the first processed set of image data and the second processed set of image data to obtain a processed image frame.
