Abstract: An electronic device may include components that emit and detect infrared light. For example, a head-mounted device may have optical modules that present images to a user's left and right eyes. Each optical module may have an infrared light-emitting diode that emits infrared light that illuminates an eye box at an infrared wavelength, and an infrared camera that captures an image from the eye box at the infrared wavelength. A low-reflectance coating may be applied to one or more electronic device housing walls to prevent interference with the infrared components or with the visibility for a user. In particular, the low-reflectance coating may be a low-visible-reflectance-and-low-infrared-reflectance coating that exhibits low-reflectance across both visible and infrared wavelengths. The low-reflectance coating may be formed from carbon nanotubes and at least one organic solvent with zero polarity to ensure a low volatile organic component in the coating.

Abstract: A head-mounted device may include optical assemblies for presenting images to a user. Motors may be used to adjust the spacing between the optical assemblies to accommodate different interpupillary distances. The force with which the motors move the optical assemblies towards a central nose bride portion of the device may be limited. The force may be limited using a clutch such as a magnetic clutch or a physical clutch based on structures that decouple from each other to limit the force. The force may also be limited by monitoring the force and halting the motors in response to detection of a given amount of force. Sensor measurements and electrical motor load measurement may be used in measuring the force. If desired, motor operation may be controlled by a user-operated button.

Abstract: A head-mounted device may include optical assemblies for presenting images to a user. Optical assembly positioning systems may be used to adjust the spacing between the optical assemblies to accommodate different interpupillary distances. The optical assembly positioning systems may have motors and threaded shafts rotated by the motors. Rotation of the shafts moves the optical assemblies along guide rods. The shafts may be protected by dust covers. Slots may be formed in the dust covers so that protruding portions of nuts on the threaded shafts can engage the optical assemblies. In some arrangements, the threaded shafts may be mounted within the guide rods and guide rod slots may be provided in the guide rods so that threaded portions of the optical assemblies can reach the shafts. Dust covers can be provided for the guide rod slots. Wipers may be provided to clean guide rod surfaces.

Abstract: A head-mounted device may include optical assemblies for presenting images to a user. Each optical assembly may have a support, a fixed lens mounted to the support, and a display configured to provide an image to an eye box through the fixed lens. Removable vision correction lenses may be used to correct for user vision defects such as nearsightedness. The vision correction lenses may be removably coupled to the optical assemblies. When coupled to the optical assemblies, the vision correction lenses overlap the fixed lenses. Each removable vision correction lens and corresponding optical assembly may have structures such as kinematic mount alignment protrusions and recesses configured to form a kinematic coupling. Debris mitigation features may be provided such as alignment structure debris covers, debris collection grooves, magnets for attracting debris, adhesive for gathering debris, and liquid drainage holes to facilitate washing to remove debris.

Abstract: A head-mounted device such as a pair of glasses may have a head-mounted housing. The head-mounted device may include displays such as projector displays and may include associated optical components. The optical components may include waveguides that are used in providing images received from the displays to corresponding eye boxes for viewing by a user. Changes in the relative orientation between the displays and waveguides may warp the images in the eye boxes. To compensate for this effect, control circuitry in the head-mounted device may use position sensors to measure the relative positions of the displays and waveguides. Image warping due to misalignment between the displays and waveguides may be removed by applying compensating image warping to the images being produced by the displays.
