    摘要: A reclosable bag is formed of a first wall and a second wall of a polymeric sheet material joined to form an enclosure with a mouth defined by the wall edges. The bag has a closure for selectively opening and sealing the mouth. The closure includes a first and a second mutually interlocking profile, each of which extends along and is bonded to the internal surface of its respective first and second wall. The first and second mutually interlocking profiles are extruded from a first polymeric resin material, and have a web portion which is bonded to the wall. Coextruded onto the web portions, or applied to the web portions following the extrusion of the strips, is at least one rib of a second polymeric resin material which includes an ultraviolet-light-excitable tracer material. The second polymeric resin material has a lower melting point than the first polymeric resin material, and is used to bond the profiles to the sheet material of the walls. Before such bonding, the ribs appear as discrete lines under ultraviolet light. After a complete bonding, the ribs disappear and are replaced by a smeared brightening of the region between the profiles and the sheet material of the walls. The appearance of ribs after bonding indicates an unsuccessful bonding operation that could possibly lead to an increase in the occurrence of leaking packages.

The separately heated regions use separately energized and controlled heating elements embedded to the material from which the metal plate is made. Separating the regions by a thermal break reduces heat transfer from the hot side to the cool side.

    摘要: A method of producing a plastic sheet-strap includes the steps of providing first and second work rollers such that the work rollers rotate in opposite directions and at different lineal surface velocities. The work rollers are spaced apart with respect to each other so as to define a work roller nip therebetween. A pinch roller is provided that is operably associated with the first work roller. The pinch roller and the first roller defining a deaerating nip therebetween. A solid sheet of material having a thickness is fed into the deaerating nip. The material is pinched against the first work roller and moves with rotation of the first work roller to the work roller nip between the first and second work rollers. The material is simultaneously milled and stretched substantially at the nip during a single pass of the solid sheet material through the nip as the rollers rotate in opposite directions and at different lineal surface velocities to form a milled and stretched oriented sheet. The second roller has a concave profile to work the edges of the sheet more than a central region of the sheet. A chill roller is disposed downstream of the second work roller to cool the milled and stretched oriented sheet.

    摘要: A new and improved sealed joint or system is disclosed for securing together the opposite ends of plastic strapping, which is encircled around the package or bale, in order to ensure that the opposite ends of the plastic strapping do not exhibit any slipping or relative movement with respect to each other whereby the predeterminedly formed size or shape of the package or bale is able to be preserved or maintained. In accordance with various different embodiments of the present invention, different arrangements of the sealed joint, with respect to the opposite ends of the plastic strapping, are structured whereby enhanced frictional contact is effectively developed between the sealed joint and the opposite ends of the plastic strapping, or between the opposite ends of the plastic strapping per se, so as to in fact reduce the amount of slipperiness effectively defined between the opposite ends of the plastic strapping. In accordance with a still further embodiment of the present invention, the opposite ends of the plastic strapping are effectively locked within a tubular sleeve member, by means of a chain-link type insert, such that the opposite ends of the plastic strapping are positionally fixed with respect to each other.

    摘要: A method for manufacturing reclosable packages on a form, fill and seal machine includes the step of providing a continuous sheet of thermoplastic material with a Z-fold extending longitudinally therealong before the sheet is wrapped around a filling tube for forming and filling the packages. The Z-fold is maintained on the tube of thermoplastic material thus formed until it reaches a loop opener on the outside surface of the filling tube. The loop opener transforms the Z-fold into a loop extending longitudinally along and outwardly from the filling tube and from the tube of thermoplastic material wrapped therearound. Simultaneously, a continuous plastic zipper having a pair of mutually interlocking profiles is directed into the tube of thermoplastic material along a channel on the outside surface of the filling tube. The zipper is ultimately guided out from the channel, through the loop opener and into the loop, and is sealed thereto to form the reclosable openings for the plastic packages being manufactured.
