Abstract: A vehicle seat and an airbag system, the seat having a backrest and a squab, extending from the backrest in a longitudinal direction, the backrest extending in height from the squab at a first lower position to a second upper position arranged proximal to shoulders of an occupant in a seated position, the airbag system having an airbag to receive inflating gas from an inflator to inflate the airbag, in which the airbag includes an upper region that extends over a head of the occupant in the seated position and a lower region that extends between a first and second side of the backrest and around a mid-section of the seated occupant, the airbag system having a tether system interconnecting the seat at the second upper position of the backrest and airbag to restrain the lower region of the airbag in the inflated configuration in the longitudinal direction.

Abstract: A cover element (10) for an airbag unit having a stationary section, a first flap (14), and a second flap (20), wherein the first flap (14) is connected to the stationary section by at least one first hinge (31), and the second flap (20) by at least one second hinge (32). The two flaps (14, 20) are connected to each other by a tear connection (35). The first flap (14) has an outer area (16) and an emblem area (18), which protrude at least partially from the outer area (16) and extend into the second flap (20). In order that the emblem area (18) is not in the way of the expanding airbag even if the emblem area (18) is relatively large, the emblem area (18) is connected to the outer area (16) of the first flap (14) by a third hinge (33), so that the emblem area (18) can swing against the outer area (16) when the first flap (14) is open.

Abstract: A restraining device for an occupant (0) seated in a vehicle seat including a carrier (20) extending over the lap of the seated occupant (0) when the restraining device is in use, an airbag (32) having an airbag main body (40) enclosing a main gas space and extending from a lower end (40a) to an upper end (40b) being located above the lower end (40a) when the airbag main body (40) is in its deployed state, and an inflating device for filling the main gas space. The airbag main body (40) is connected to the carrier (20) via a connection section at the lower end (40a) of the airbag main body (40) and has an impact wall (42). In order to be independent of a support from another part of the vehicle the airbag main body (40) tapers from its lower end (40a) to its upper end (40b).
