摘要： A first detection unit and a second detection unit detect the light that is incident from the direction where a screen is to be located. A controller determines whether the screen is located at a recommended position based on output signals from the first detection unit and the second detection unit. When the screen is located at the recommended position, the controller controls the projection display apparatus so as to be in the state where a significant image can be projected. The controller may determine whether the screen is located at the recommended position and in a normal state based on the output signals. When the screen is located at the recommended position and in a normal state, the controller may control the projection display apparatus so as to be in the state where a significant image can be projected.

摘要： An image display unit, such as a projection-type image display apparatus, displays a first image and a second image, having a predetermined parallax relative to the first image, onto a predetermined display region by dividing the first image and the second image temporally or spatially. First eyeglasses are to be worn by a first viewer to see the first image and the second image displayed on the display region. Second eyeglasses are to be worn by a second viewer to see the first image and the second image displayed on the display region, and the second viewer faces the first viewer in a direction parallel to the plane of display. The first eyeglasses perform a function of having the right eye of the first viewer see the first image and having the left eye of the first viewer see the second image. The second eyeglasses perform a function of having the right eye of the second viewer see the second image and having the left eye of the second viewer see the first image.

摘要： An optical system (light guiding optical system) for guiding G-light and R-light to liquid crystal panels is protruded in an opposite direction from projection optical system with regard to an optical axis of a light source. A space is created between an optical engine and a wall surface, and air stream for suction fan is thus secured. A distance (H1) between the optical engine and the wall surface can be reduced to, for example, a thickness of an external housing of the projector. Since a unit comprising the light source and a suction fan is retracted in a direction of the projection optical system than a protruded portion of the light guiding optical system, a distance (H2) from an end edge of the optical engine to a projection light emitting position can be reduced.

The housing case has a base plate and a ceiling plate. The ceiling plate is provided with a transmission area and a projection-plane-side shield plate, the transmission area being an area through which light emitted from the projection unit passes, the projection-plane-side shield plate being placed closer to the projection plane than the transmission area. The projection-plane-side shield plate is configured to shield unwanted light being other than light forming an image among light passed through the transmission area.
