    Abstract: Apparatus for automatically preparing a cow for milking. The apparatus includes a stall having front and rear gates for confining the cow with the front gate being openable to permit the cow to leave the stall and the rear gate being openable to permit another cow to enter the stall. Located just forwardly of the rear gate is a spray assembly which is operable to sequentially spray a cow''s udder with a cleaning solution and a rinsing solution. A detector located forwardly of the stall determines when a cow has left the same to be milked for automatically closing the front gate and opening the rear gate to admit another cow. A detector within the stall senses when the other cow has entered the same to close the rear gate and actuate the spray assembly. Also included is a mechanism for dispensing feed to a feed trough in the stall so that a cow may be fed while undergoing preparation for milking.

    Abstract: A restraining stall for cows during milking or preparation prior to milking. The stall includes a front gate and a rear gate along with a feed manger adjacent the front gate from which the cow may feed during milking or preparation prior to milking. In order to positively deter the cow from continuing to feed after the milking or the preparation process, the stall is provided with a forcer gate adapted to swing across the front of the manger and toward the front gate. Means are provided responsive to the opening of the front gate for operating the forcer gate. Also provided is a control system for sequentially operating the gate.

    Abstract: A crowd gate for urging animals, for example, cows, toward a desired position as, for example, a milking parlor. The crowd gate includes a carriage which is adapted to ride on an overhead track and which swingably mounts a depending gate which may come into contact with an animal standing on a surface underlying the rails. A motor is operative to drive the carriage and, thus, the gate, along the rails until such time as the gate encounters an animal at which time the motor is de-energized for a predetermined time. After the time has elapsed, the motor is again energized until an animal is again engaged. The system also includes a means for elevating the gate and for reversing the carriage motors so that the carriage in the gate may be returned to a starting position.

    Abstract: A control circuit for an automatic milker unit includes a circuit for sensing the flow of milk from each teat cup. When the flow ceases, the liquid sensing circuit actuates a time delay circuit which in turn operates to cause a pneumatic piston to remove the teat cup from the animal. A dribble or sloshing of milk during the time delay does not prevent teat cup removal. However, a resumption of steady milk flow for an extended period of time during the delay will prevent removal of the teat cup until a subsequent cessation of milk flow. A circuit is provided for disabling the sensing circuit for a period of time to permit the operator to attach the teat cups at the start of the milking operation. The four sensing circuits of the milker unit are connected with an output circuit which detects the absence of milk flow from all four quarters of the animal and produces a ''''not milking'''' signal for energizing indicators or other milking system devices. The output circuit also produces an inverse ''''milking'''' signal to energize a motor for supplying feed to the animal or operate other devices so long as milk is flowing.

    Abstract: An automatic shutoff milker including four teat cup assemblies connectable with an animal''s teats and a milk flow passage from each assembly through an accumulation well and into a milk receiving bowl. Four piston and cylinder devices are mounted generally horizontally within a recess on the underside of a base portion for the apparatus, and a flexible cable is connected between each piston and a teat cup assembly for applying pull to the assembly in response to movement of the piston.
