Abstract: A multifunction logic network is provided to perform a selected one of a plurality of operations, each a function of one, two or three variables and five control signals. A first plurality of gates provide all possible AND functions of two variables A and D, each in response to a separate control signal. A fifth gate then provides all possible inverted functions of a third variable C when true and one or more of the other variables A and D in response to the output signals of the first four gates and a fifth control signal. All possible AND functions of two variables are then combined by a sixth gate with the output of the fifth gate. A seventh gate provides all possible inverted functions of the third variable C when false and the other variables A and D in response to the output of the fifth gate and the fifth control signal. An eighth gate effectively OR''s the complements of the sixth and seventh gates to provide all of 30 possible functions of one or more of the variables A, D and C. The remaining two operations consist of selectively transmitting one of two possible binary constants.

Abstract: A CRT data display system is provided with means for entering a character in memory for display in any position indicated by a cursor signal. Once a character has been entered, the cursor is automatically moved to the next character position in memory and displayed. The cursor may also be moved without entering a character. Character display is by a dot matrix such that n strokes are required to display a character and an additional stroke is required to provide an intercharacter space. The CRT beam is blanked during the additional stroke. The cursor signal is stored in a memory location read during the additional stroke period just preceding the position into which a character may be entered. Apparatus responds to the cursor signal a fraction of the time as the displayed data is repeatedly read for CRT regeneration, thereby displaying a blinking cursor. The cursor is displayed as a block in the character position accessible for entry, all without obliterating any character that may be present in that position.

Abstract: A system for converting codes between a system data (e.g., ASCII) code format and a video display (e.g., dot matrix) code format is disclosed for use in a data display system employing a cathode-ray tube. Conversion is accomplished one line of characters at a time by a procedure in which the character code groups to be converted (system to video or video to system) are circulated in a register in synchronism with a ''''dictionary'''' consisting of a series of all possible character code groups, each with its related code group of the other format. The circulating register for the dictionary is shorter than the register for the line of data to be converted such that with each cycle of the data circulating register, the dictionary is ''''precessed'''' (shifted) one character position in the line of data. When a correlation is found, the related code group of the other format is substituted from the dictionary into the data register. Thus, one line of data is converted in a number of cycles of the data register equal to or less than the number of different character code groups of either format in the dictionary register.

Abstract: A data storage and display system is provided with a control feature for selectively displaying stored message formats having fields into which data is to be entered by an operator. The feature includes means for insuring that the data entered into each field is of the numeric or alphabetic type if either has been specified on a character-by-character basis. If the operator attempts to enter any other type of character for a given specified character, an error is indicated and a correct character must be entered before proceeding to the next character in the same or different field. There is also provision for determining whether entries in all fields have been completed before the message format can be transferred to a file storage and control unit.
