    Abstract: A method is provided for extending the service life of a used metallic compressor wheel having a damaged surface. The method generally comprises the steps of inspecting the used compressor wheel for material discontinuities such as fatigue cracks and, if fatigue cracks exceeding a predetermined length are not present, renewing the used compressor wheel such as by peening. The inspection process comprises conducting a non-destructive examination of the used compressor wheel to detect cracks larger than those which would fall generally within the compressive stress zone that is generated by peening.

    Abstract: A method for remanufacturing a compressor wheel for a turbocharger is disclosed. The method includes scanning one or more surfaces of the compressor wheel using a laser scanning system to measure a depth of defects located in the one or more surfaces. The method further includes forming a compressive residual stress zone in each of the one or more surfaces with an effective depth that is at least equal to the predetermined distance if all of the measured depths are less than a predetermined distance and discarding the compressor wheel if at least one of the measured depths is greater than or equal to the predetermined distance.

    Abstract: A fuel injector is disclosed herein. The fuel injector includes an injection line, a control valve, a check rod, a control cavity, a high pressure inlet, and a drain line. The injection line fluidly connects a fuel inlet to an injection cavity. The control cavity is adjacent an upper end of the check rod distal to the injection cavity. The high pressure inlet fluidly connects the injection line to the control cavity. The control valve blocks the flow of fuel from the control cavity to the drain line when the control valve is in a closed position and does not block the flow of fuel from the control cavity to the drain line when the control valve is in an open position.
