Abstract:
A system includes a plurality of modules which are configured for determining a suitable impedance for a modem. The plurality of modules send signals with a plurality of signal frequencies to a telephone and receive feedback signals from the telephone under each of a plurality of impedances of the modem, compute a total decibel value of the feedbacks under each impedance, and determine a suitable impedance according to a minimum total decibel value from the plurality of total decibel values.
Abstract:
A method for offering a fixed Internet protocol (IP) address to a client device is provided. The method includes recording a client device ID and an IP address assigned to the client device by a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) server. The method further includes sending a renewing request periodically to the DHCP server to renew the IP address in response to the determination that the client device is not powered on. Furthermore, the method includes sending an offering message comprising the client device ID and the IP address to the client device until the client device accepts the offering message in response to the determination that the client device is powered on.
Abstract:
A cable modem in communication with a trivial file transfer protocol (TFTP) server includes a default system and a backup system employing various packet cable protocols. The cable modem boots with the default system, obtains a vendor specific information (VSIF) from the TFTP server, and determines if the VSIF matches with the default system. The cable modem continuously boots with the default system if the VSIF matches with the default system. The cable modem configures the currently default system to be the backup system and configures the currently backup system to be the default system, and reboots with the newly configured default system if the VSIF mismatches with the default system.
Abstract:
A method for connecting a computer to the Internet checks if an original media control access (MAC) address in a received data packet is identical with a MAC address of a certain computer that has been allocated an IP address. If the original MAC address in the received data packet is not identical with the MAC address of the certain computer, the method sends an address resolution protocol (ARP) request to detect if the certain computer is shut down. If the certain computer is shut down, the method replaces the original MAC address in the received data packet by the MAC address of the certain computer, so as to connect the computer that sends the received data packet to the Internet using the IP address of the certain computer.
Abstract:
A cable modem and a priority setting method thereof receive signaling packets from telephone interfaces and local area network (LAN) interfaces, and preset the signaling packets from telephone interfaces as VoIP packets with a first priority and the signaling packets from the LAN interfaces as LAN packets with a second priority. The cable modem and the priority setting method pick out RTP packets from the VoIP and LAN packets, and classify the RTP packets as VoIP RTP packets and LAN RTP packets. The cable modem and the priority setting method determine whether all of the IP phones are on-hook, and update the LAN RTP packets from the second priority to the first priority in response to all of the IP phones being on-hook. The cable modem and the priority setting method allocate bandwidths for the signaling packets corresponding to the first priority and the second priority.
Abstract:
A system and method can manage network connectivity of a customer premises equipment (CPE) using a cable modem termination system (CMTS). The CMTS connects to the CPE via a cable modem, and connects to a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) server via a network. The CMTS includes a connection unit that is operable to inform the CPE to request the DHCP server to get a new internet protocol (IP) address when the cable modem changes a radio frequency (RF) channel to different IP domains, and control the CPE to communicate with the CMTS according to the new IP address.
Abstract:
A method for updating digital certificates of a cable modem (CM) sends a request packet to a certificate authority if the CM needs to update a current digital certificate. A feedback packet responsive to the request packet is obtained from the certificate authority. A new digital certificate contained in the feedback packet is written into a storage system of the CM to replace the current digital certificate.
Abstract:
A system for debugging an Internet protocol (IP) phone (104) includes an embedded media terminal adapter (EMTA) (100) connected to the IP phone, and a central office device (102) connected to the EMTA via a network. The EMTA includes a data obtaining module (1001) for obtaining operation data of the IP phone, a buffering module (1003) for temporarily storing the operation data, a data determining module (1005) for determining whether the buffering module is, a log file generating module (1007) for accessing the operation data in the buffering module and generating log files, and a storage module (1009) for storing the log files. The central office device is used for calling the log files when there is a malfunction in the IP phone, and restoring normal function to the IP phone via the network.
Abstract:
A network registration method of a cable modem boots the cable modem with a default packet cable (PC) protocol, detects the network server through a network when the cable modem is booted, and determines whether the network server has been detected. When the network server has been detected, the method registers the cable modem on the network server through the network. Additionally, the method reboots the cable modem with a backup PC protocol upon the condition that the network server has not been detected.
Abstract:
A modem includes a communicating module, a multimedia terminal adapter (MTA) module, a parsing module, and a selecting module. The communicating module sends a configuration file request packet to a TFTP server to get configuration files including a file ID. The parsing module parses the configuration files to get the file ID. The selecting module configures the MTA module corresponding to the file ID. The communicating module further communicates with a VoIP network according to a protocol corresponding to the file ID.
