Abstract: Methods and compositions are described that are useful for the refinement of animal or plant based fats or oils, such as rendered animal fats or used cooking oils. The methods can be utilized to remove metal and inorganic contaminants from the fats or oils. Refined products of the methods can be used to produce biodiesel that is compliant with ASTM B6751 for B100, and D7467 for B6 to B20.
