摘要: In a method of cooling continuously cast billets of polygonal cross section the surfaces of the casting are sprayed with coolant from atomizing nozzles as it leaves the mold. The sides adjacent the edges are sprayed by nozzles having a relatively high-average delivery per unit area in an approximately rectangular pattern; the central portions of the sides are sprayed with nozzles of relatively low-average delivery and a spray delivery that decreases toward the edge regions.

摘要: A method of casting steel into a continuous casting mold wherein the steel is guided to a level beneath the molten metal pool in the mold, the steel during its departure in the form of a thin coherent pattern is introduced simultaneously towards the bottom as well as laterally into the liquid metal pool. For the practice of the method there is employed a pouring tube having at least one outlet opening which opens into the liquid metal pool in the mold, this outlet opening possessing the shape of a slot which opens downwards and laterally.

摘要: A method of controlling the cooling rate of narrow side walls of plate molds during continuous casting, wherein the narrow side walls are fixedly clamped between the wide side walls, prior to start of the casting the hollow casting compartment between the narrow side walls is provided with a casting taper which converges in the direction of travel of the cast strand or casting and which is accommodated to the quality of the steel and the width of the strand. Prior to the start of the casting operation the casting taper is additionally adjusted to a reference value which corresponds to the contemplated casting speed and/or casting temperature, and upon deviation of the casting speed and/or casting temperature during the casting operation the casting taper is changed in accordance with reference values corresponding to such fluctuating or changing casting parameters.

摘要: In a continuous casting plant, a carrier member is positioned between and supports the casting as it passes from the outlet of the mold to the casting guideway. The carrier member is arranged to move linearly and rotatably in a plane generally normal to the longitudinal path of movement of the casting for adjusting to any uneven cooling within the mold which causes the casting to deflect from its normal path of movement. If uneven cooling exists within the mold, means are provided for displacing the carrier member to correct the uneven cooling condition.
