摘要: A display arrangement for displaying any desired symbol in an arbitrary manner in any desired sequence. The display is in the form of a grid pattern in which the grid areas confined by the lines and columns of the grid are either of one visual surface or another visually contrasting surface. The surfaces are flipped from one to the other through the application of a magnetic actuating device. The actuating device supports the visually contrasting surfaces and includes two permanent magnetic discs mounted in a plane perpendicular to the axis of movement or rotation about which the device moves in flipping from one display surface to the other. The permanent magnets operate in conjunction with an electromagnet which generates a field directed through an airgap. When the direction of the magnetic field is in one sense, one of the two permanent magnetic discs is attracted into the airgap while the other is repelled. When the direction of the magnetic field is reversed, the action upon the permanent magnetic discs is correspondingly reversed and the actuating device is moved so as to display the appropriate visual surface. By energizing the electromagnet with current in the proper direction, a particular area within the grid pattern may be made of one or the other contrasting surface and as a result any desired symbol may be displayed.

摘要: THERE IS DISCLOSED A MALTESE-CROSS DRIVE ARRANGEMENT WHICH CAN BE SWITCHED IN AND OUT INCORPORATING A CONTINUOUSLY DRIVEN DRIVE ROTOR HAVING DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED BORES IN WHICH THERE ARE ARRANGED MAGNETIC ENTRAINMENT PIN MEMBERS ENGAGEABLE WITH A STEPWISE INDEXABLE DRIVEN ELEMENT FOR STEPWISE DISPLACEMENT THEREOF. THE ENTRAINMENT PIN MEMBERS CAN BE SELECTIVELY CONTROLLED FOR MOVEMENT FOR AN INEFFECTUAL REST POSITION INTO AN OPERABLE WORKING POSITION WHERE SUCH OPERABLY ENGAGE WITH SAID DRIVEN ELEMENT. ACCORDING TO THE INVENTION, THE DRIVE ROTOR AND THE AXIALLY DISPLACEABLE ENTRAINMENT PIN MEMBERS FORM COMPONENTS OF A FERROMAGNETIC WORK CIRCUIT WHICH ADDITIONALLY INCLUDES FIRST AND SECOND POLE SHOES, ONE OF THE POLE SHOES HAVING A PREDETERMINED CONFIGURED GUIDE SURFACE. THROUGH APPROPRIATE OPERATION OF THE FERROMAGNETIC WORK CIRCUIT EACH ENTRAINMENT PIN MEMBER CAN BE SELECTIVELY DISPLACED FROM ITS REST POSITION INTO ITS WORKING POSITION WHERE IT ENGAGES WITH THE DRIVEN ELEMENT FOR STEPWISE DISPLACEMENT OF THE LATTER.

摘要: 1,269,984. Reverse gear with shock free clutch. CONTRAVES A.G. 31 March, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 16816/69. Headings F2C, F2D and F2L. A transmission comprises a planetary bevel gear train G 1 having pinions 42 meshing with two coaxial sun gears 3 1 , 33, one 33 fixed the other 3 1 driven (e.g. at constant speed) and an output star wheel 6 1 movable axially between two positions in each of which it is positively coupled to one of the gears 3 1 , 33 (e.g. by heads 34, 36 engaging slots 62 in the star wheel) by auxiliary gearing (e.g. pinions 21, 21 1 having magnetically extended, mechanically retracted pins 23 engaging straight slots 73 in a non- rotatable member 7 axially slidable with the starwheel 6 1 ), the pinions 42 having eccentric heads 43, at least one of which engages a recess 61 in the starwheel while it is moving axially. There may be a second similar planetary bevel gear train G, and a second star wheel 6 movable axially with the member 7, the driven sun gears 3, 3 1 rotating at equal speeds in opposite directions due to bevel gearing with fixed axes A 2 , A 5 , the shaft 2 being driven at constant speed. The two star wheels 6, 6 1 are mounted on a common sleeve 52 rotatable with but axially movable on an output shaft 5 by balls 51, the sleeve being moved by pins 23 acting on the member 7 between three positions, a forward position (shown) a stop position where the wheels 6, 6 1 each engaged heads 43, and a reverse position in which the wheel 6 engages the heads 36 of the gear 3 and the wheel 6 1 is between the right hand plates 11 and 12. The member 7 is biased to stay in each of its three positions by a sprung roller 83 entering a notch in a rail 71 on the member. The pins 23 rotating about the axis A 2 are retracted by the cylindrical face 93 of a pole piece 92 of an electromagnet 9 which when excited extends a pin by attracting it to the face 93.
