Abstract: A spacer for a valvetrain in an engine system includes a spacer body defining a spacer axis extending between a first axial spacer body end and a second axial spacer body end, and including an outer peripheral surface, a circumferentially extending inner peripheral surface forming a through-bore, an oil spray port extending from the inner peripheral surface to the outer peripheral surface, and a circumferentially extending fluid groove formed in the inner peripheral surface and extending to the oil spray port. Related valvetrain and rocker arm assembly apparatus is also disclosed.

Abstract: A method of coupling a fan to an engine includes selecting a base portion of a fan adapter, which includes a mounting portion and a coupling portion with a mating portion. The mounting portion is configured to be coupled to a fan drive or a fan drive pulley of the engine via one or more mounting elements. The method also includes selecting a fan end portion of the fan adapter. The fan end portion includes a mounting portion and a coupling portion. The mounting portion of the fan end portion is configured to be coupled to the fan, and the coupling portion of the fan end portion includes a mating portion that is complementary to the mating portion of the base portion. The method further includes coupling the engine to the fan by coupling the mating portion of the fan end portion to the mating portion of the base portion.

Abstract: A grease packing tool includes a support member and an alignment member. The support member includes a radially outward section, a radially inward section, and an annular passage. The radially outward section has an inner surface that includes an annular seat for receiving a cage of a bearing assembly. The radially inward section has an outer surface that includes an annular ledge for supporting an inner ring of the bearing assembly. The annular passage is arranged between the radially outward section and the radially inward section and is configured to deliver grease between rolling elements of the bearing assembly. The alignment member includes a projection that has an exterior surface for contacting the inner ring of the bearing assembly to ensure that the cage of the bearing assembly and the inner ring of the bearing assembly are respectively seated in the annular seat and the annular ledge.

Abstract: Operating an engine includes opening and closing exhaust valves in an engine braking timing pattern, charging a first cylinder with air fed directly from an intake manifold, and releasing the directly fed air in a first braking event. Operating the engine further includes charging the first cylinder with air fed via a flow-through path through a second cylinder operating as an air conduit, and releasing the air fed through the flow-through path and pressurized to brake the engine in a second braking event. Related apparatus and valve lift profiles are also disclosed.

Abstract: An engine valve actuation system includes engine braking rocker arms each having a hydraulically actuated switch, and an electrohydraulic control system including an actuation fluid supply, an electrically actuated valve adjustable to vary a pressure of actuation fluid supplied from the actuation fluid supply to the hydraulically actuated switches, and an engine braking control unit. The engine braking control unit is structured to command adjusting the electrically actuated valve to adjust the hydraulically actuated switch in each of the engine braking rocker arms at a switching window timing that is varied from engine braking cycle to engine braking cycle to distribute hard handoffs among the engine braking rocker arms.
