A device for the loading of bottled fluid with no spillage consists of a valve body and a base plate coupled to the valve body in a vertically slidable manner. The valve body consists of a body, an integrated cap handle, a bottle seal and a pair of hinge brackets. The base plate consists of a body, a set of bottle stabilization posts and a pair of hinge brackets which, being coupled to the valve body through a pair of clamp levers, converts the sliding movements between the base plate and the valve body into rotations of the clamp levers to permit or prohibit the flow of fluid from the bottle regardless of its orientation while simultaneously unlocking or locking the device onto the bottle.

A device which prevents spillage when a water bottle is inverted for installation onto a water dispenser. The device establishes the flow of water from the water bottle into the water dispenser after a predetermined time delay from when the bottle is inverted. The device is a membrane closure which initially provides a water tight seal on the mouth of the water bottle, but which opens up to allow water to flow from the bottle after a predictable time delay. Thus, the user can slowly and carefully invert the water bottle and place it in the correct position. Three embodiments are presented: 1) a membrane seal which is folded multiple times to create an initially water tight seal, which, when the water bottle is inverted, slowly unfolds due to the hydrostatic pressure, thereby opening the seal and allowing the water to flow; 2) a membrane seal of a moisture sensitive material which is coated with a water impermeable material and which is scored in a desired rupture pattern. When the bottle is inverted, the water penetrates the membrane seal which ruptures, allowing the water to flow after a predictable time delay; 3) a composite membrane seal made of a water impermeable material which has a moisture sensitive material within it, forming a desired rupture pattern. When the bottle is inverted, the water penetrates the moisture sensitive material and weakens it so that it will rupture after a predictable time delay.

A bottle cap having a valve which provides a water tight seal to prevent spillage when a water bottle is inverted for installation onto a water dispenser, but which can be opened after the water bottle is installed by generating a hydraulic shock wave within the bottle to open the valve. A first embodiment has a triple valve seal with mechanical interference between the valve pieces to create an initially water tight seal. A second embodiment employs a dual valve structure. A third embodiment employs a single valve structure. In the first three embodiments, the valves are pivotally attached to the valve body by flexible living hinges. A fourth embodiment has a single linearly sliding valve. Three methods are presented for generating the hydraulic shock wave to open the valve. In the first method, the water bottle is positioned just above the water dispenser and lowered rapidly. In the second method, the bottle is placed on the dispenser and tipped so that one shoulder of the bottle is just above the top opening of the dispenser, then the bottle is allowed to settle back into place. These two methods create an inertial shock wave when the bottle comes to rest. In the third method, the bottle is placed on the dispenser with the seal intact, and the user strikes the top or the sides of the water bottle to create the hydraulic shock wave.

A method of depositing spots of liquid ink upon selected pixel centers on a substrate having poor ink absorptive properties so as to prevent the flow of liquid ink from one spot to an overlapping adjacent one. The line of information is printed in at least two passes so as to deposit spots of liquid ink on selected pixel centers in a checkerboard pattern wherein only diagonally adjacent pixel areas are deposited in the same pass. On the second pass the complementary checkerboard pattern is deposited. Ink is not deposited on horizontally or vertically adjacent pixel areas during the single pass since the spots on these adjacent areas have overlapping portions.

A grass guard for forming a vegetationless border around a perimeter of an object, such as a lawn sprinkler head, is described. One particular embodiment consists of a two layer construction. The top layer is a plastic sheet simulating grass. The bottom layer is made of a heavy grit bonded into a uniform body with a polymer. The layers form a relatively thin, weather resistant, plastically compliant disk with a center hole for stretch, self-adjusting fit over a pre-installed sprinkler head. The device is also easily cut through with a knife to fit various head locations. The bottom layer has an outside vertical edge with a top rounded corner enclosing the top layer to prevent edge delamination or fraying. An adhesive is provided to bond the grass guard to the neck of the sprinkler head to eliminate gap formation around the head. A hammering board can be used to facilitate the installation. Optionally, pre-watering the vicinity of the sprinkler head until the ground is softened from moisture further simplifies the installation and enhances the quality. In general, the device can be used to guard against the growth of vegetation next to any physical objects with the proper tailoring of geometry and choice of associated manufacturing process.

A membrane closure which prevents spillage during installation of a water bottle onto a dispenser.
