    摘要: An aspirator cassette includes a housing having first and second ends sealed off by first and second end caps, respectively. A partition mechanism is enclosed within the housing for dividing its internal volume into first and second regions. First and second fluid flow ports are mounted on the first and second end caps, respectively, to provide fluid flow paths into and from the first and second regions, respectively. When the first region is filled with liquid, its associated first port is connected to a vacuum source for sucking the liquid out of the region, whereby as the liquid is removed, the partition mechanism responds by decreasing the volume of the first region, and increasing the volume of the second region causing its second port to draw a vacuum for sucking fluid from an aspiration device connected to the second port.

    摘要: A surgical laser probe includes a handpiece having a proximal end for receiving an optical fiber into a centrally located throughhole, and a distal end through which the centrally located throughhole extends and varies in diameter. An end portion of a stainless steel tube is rigidly secured within the hole in the distal end of the handpiece. An end portion of a polyimide bendable tube is secured to the free end of the stainless steel tube. A slideable finger pad is installed in a slotway of the handpiece and rigidly secured to one end of a Nitinol wire. The optical fiber is extended through the handpiece, the stainless steel tube, and into the bendable tube, with the free end of the optical fiber terminated at the free end of the polyimide bendable tube. As the finger pad is slid toward the distal end of the handpiece, the free end of the Nitinol wire is increasingly moved into the bendable tube for increasingly bending the bendable tube and optical fiber away from the longitudinal axis of the stainless steel tube.

    摘要: A laser probe including a handpiece and a rigid cannula fixed to the handpiece to prevent relative translational movement-therebetween. An optical fiber for delivering laser energy is supported for translational movement relative to the handpiece. A slidable button is fixed to the optical fiber via a rigid sleeve such that the button and optical fiber move together in the same direction during operation. The fiber may be selectively positioned relative to the button to cause the button to act as a visual indicator of the direction in which the fiber will extend from the cannula. The button may be specially configured with an enlarged head portion to enhance grippability and smooth operation of the button.

    摘要: The combination of an adaptor and a male connector are configured for screwing onto a female optical fiber connector consisting of electrically conductive material electrically connected to a sense node of a controller. A ground clip partially surrounds but is electrically isolated from the female connector. An adaptor consisting of an insulator ring having a first ring of electrically conductive material on a front face, a second ring of electrically conductive material on a back face, and a resistor mounted in a transverse groove of the insulator ring, with the resistor having its ends electrically connected between the first and second electrically conductive rings. The insulator includes a threaded centrally located hole for screwing onto the female connector, whereby the first ring is secured against the ground clip to ground the associated end of the resistor. A male connector having an electrically conductive housing is configured for carrying an optical fiber holder that plugs into a cylindrical cavity of the female connector when the male connector is screwed onto the female connector, with a front face of the male connector mechanically and electrically engaging the second ring to electrically connect the other end of the resistor to the female connector, whereby the controller responds by permitting activation of an associated laser transmitter to transmit laser light into an optical fiber carried by the optical fiber holder.

    摘要: A microsurgical instrument used in ophthalmic surgery to remove proliferative membranes during a surgical procedure treating proliferative vitreoretinal membrane disorders and other macular diseases where the microsurgical instrument has a instrument handle, a tip, and abrasive particles attached to a scraping edge projecting beyond the tip. The microsurgical instrument may be fitted with infusion, aspiration, or illumination sources, and these sources are directed to the surgical site in proximity to the scraping edge, the abrasive particles on the edge scrape membranes to remove tissue at the surgical site. In one embodiment, the microsurgical instrument may be configured with a retractable/extendable pick where the relative stiffness of the pick and the edge may be adjusted. In another embodiment the edge may also be angularly positionable as it is retracted/extended from the microsurgical instrument.
