摘要: The present invention is a system, method, and computer readable medium for controlling the downloading and display of animated sequences from a server to a client. A user chooses which, if any, animated sequences to view on a Web page. Before downloading a graphics file associated with a particular Web page, the server checks the file to determine if it contains any animated sequences. If the graphics file contains an animated sequence, the server only downloads the first graphic image of the animated sequence. This first graphic image is presented as a static image to the user. By only downloading the first graphic image, download time is reduced and less memory and disk space is used in the client. The user views the static image presented on the screen, and then determines if he wishes to view the entire animated sequence. If so, the user indicates that he wishes to view the entire animated sequence. The server then downloads and executes the entire graphics file, allowing the user to view the entire animated sequence.

摘要: The present invention is a system and method for finding information of interest within a particular Web page. A user creates an interest profile, which is stored with the user's browser. An interest profile may be as simple as a list of key words, or may be more complex, including data such as relative importance weights and boolean expressions. Once an interest profile is created, it may be used on any Web page to sort the information on the page according to the user s interests. Information may be sorted by line, paragraph, section, or any other defined scope. Once sorted, the information is displayed to the user as a series of links to the actual points of interest within the original page.

摘要: A computer controlled user interactive display system having the customary provision of user access to the files stored therein through the display of a plurality of interactive objects which may be icons or even text representing the files usually in an arrangement of hierarchical screens. In addition, the system has means for displaying a set of high interactivity objects separate from the display of the plurality of objects. This set of high activity objects is developed through means for monitoring user interactivity with respect to basic plurality of interactive objects and means responsive to the monitoring means for selecting a set of high interactivity objects having user interactivity greater than selected levels. The system further includes means for displaying the set of high interactivity objects responsive to any file request so that the high interactivity objects are immediately displayed in response to any file request.

摘要: A key assembly includes a cover disposed over a transducer which is connected to a key acutator/interface disposed between the key transducer and a CPU. A tactile signal generator generates control signals from the CPU to activate the actuator/interface. The actuator/interface provides a signal appropriate to the particular transducer causing it to produce tactile feedback response to the key cover and user's touch. The key assembly may include a larger key cover disposed over a plurality of key transducers whereby the CPU causes texture and fine detail sensations variable over the key cover area by selective, variable actuation of the transducers. The end-user may thereby sense by physical contact with the large key cover electronically generated sensations of irregular surfaces or textures. Tactile profiles either user-specified or automatically invoked by a corresponding application vary the keyboard touch and feel as defined by the selected profile.

摘要: A uniquely programmed computer system and computer-implemented method direct a computer system to efficiently transmit voice. The method includes the steps of transforming voice from a user into text at a first system, converting a voice sample of the user into a set of voice characteristics stored in a voice database in a second system, and transmitting the text to the second system, whereby the second system converts the text into audio by synthesizing the voice of the user using the voice characteristics from the voice sample. The voice characteristics and text may be transmitted individually or jointly. However, if the system transmits voice characteristics individually, subsequent multiple text files are transmitted and converted at the second system using the stored voice characteristics located within the second system.

摘要: A method and apparatus for quickly expanding a compressed list of items on a display system are provided. The method entails displaying the compressed list of items and expanding the displayed compressed list of items by displaying a non-displayed item halfway between two displayed items when a pointer touches the two displayed items. If the pointer only touches one displayed item, a non-displayed item halfway between the displayed item touched and the displayed item immediately above as well as that immediately below the displayed item touched will be displayed. If, on the other hand, the pointer touches three displayed items, a non-displayed item halfway between each pair of the three displayed items touched will be displayed.

摘要: A method, apparatus and memory embodying detailed logic direct a computer system to automatically shift a window substantially off a display screen using a pointer and user controls (e.g., mouse). The display screen has at least one edge, but typically is rectangular in shape having four edges. The first step of the method includes moving the window on the display screen in a direction consistent with the movement of the pointer. To do so, the user positions and activates the pointer over the window using the user controls. The second step includes automatically scrolling the window substantially off the display screen such that only a portion of the window remains visible at the edge of the display screen. This step occurs when the user has activated and positioned the pointer over the window and then moved the activated pointer to one of the edges of the display screen for a predetermined amount of time (e.g., two seconds).

摘要: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for causing a computer to directly scroll the contents of window in any direction. The window could be a folder, document, or any container for retaining information. The contents of the window are too large to be simultaneously displayed on the display screen. The method includes the first step of moving a visible view indicator of a scrolling mechanism in a direction consistent with movement of a pointer means in response to the pointer means being positioned and activated over the visible view indicator using user controls. The second step includes the step of scrolling the contents of the window on the display screen in a direction substantially opposite to the movement of the pointer means and the visible view indicator.

摘要: A method and apparatus for scrolling functionality in a graphical user interface utilizing a software tether. Preferably, the invention is utilized in a data processing system which supports a graphical user interface which is utilized by the operator to create, modify, or review software objects. At least one particular work space is provided in the graphical user interface. A scroll bar activation function is provided which initiates scroll bar functionality after a predefined interaction of the graphical pointing device with said graphical user interface. The data processing system is utilized to monitor for interaction between the graphical pointing device and the graphical user interface, which satisfies the scroll bar activation function. After detection of satisfaction of the scroll bar activation function, the at least one scroll bar functionality is associated with the graphical pointing device. Then, a visually perceptible connection is generated which associates the at least one scroll bar functionality with the graphical pointing device in the graphical user interface.

摘要: A computer implemented method, computer system, and article of manufacture embodying computer readable program means direct a computer system to create in a window an insertion bar for inserting hierarchical level identifiers into any hierarchically arranged data. The method includes the first step of inserting a blank line at the location of an insert event, in response to detecting the insert event at the location in the window. The second event includes the step of counting a number of hierarchical levels above the blank line and placing a marker on the blank line, each marker corresponding to a horizontal position of each hierarchical level, thereby creating the insertion bar. The third step includes the step of in response to detecting a move event over one of the markers in the insertion bar, creating an additional hierarchical level identifier of the same hierarchical level and in succession to the hierarchical level corresponding to the selected marker.
