摘要:
A system and method for providing electrical and/or fluid treatment within a patient's brain, the system and method utilizing a feedthrough assembly made of a compressible material, and a disk-like pinch-on part, or resilient clamping part, which is secured around the feedthrough assembly to provide radially inward compressive force to reliably fix the lead after it has been positioned relative to the patient's skull. The feedthrough assembly is suitably made of a compressible biocompatible material such as silicone rubber, and has a annular receiving groove which is located so that it is accessible above the cranium after the feedthrough assembly is fixed within a burr hole in the patient's head. The pinch-on part, or clamping means is manufactured in a normally closed position, but can be opened, as by use of a forceps-type instrument, for positioning around the assembly annular groove. The anchored lead or catheter member is operatively connected to an implantable pulse generator or fluid pump, or both, to provide a system for treatment within the patient's brain.

A temporary atrial defibrillation lead featuring a pad fashioned of a pliant biocompatible material in which three parallel stainless steel defibrillation wire electrodes are mounted. The pad contains holes which expose the electrode wires in a discontinuous fashion. The three electrode wires are merged into one polyurethane insulated lead body, proximal to the pad. At the proximal end of the lead body a stainless steel connector pin with break away needle is mounted, for percutaneous exteriorization of the lead pin, in an area separated from the surgical incision. The break away needle can be broken off to make the connector pin suitable to patient cable connection. The pad is permanently implanted on the atria and remains implanted after removal of the temporary electrode sections. The temporary electrode sections may be removed by gently pulling them at their proximal end. In a preferred embodiment the pad is fashioned of PTFE felt. In an alternate embodiment the pad is fashioned of collagen and is thereby absorbed by the body tissues over time.

An intramuscular lead for the electrical stimulation of muscle tissue. The improved lead has a needle connected to a strand of suture, a coiled conductor coupled to the strand by a tapered section of the coiled conductor, an insulative cover covers part of the coiled conductor, and a terminal connector coupled to the coiled conductor provides a connection to a pulse generator. Through such a construction the lead may be more readily introduced through muscle tissue.
