    摘要: A method of winding a motor armature includes providing a sub-assembly comprising a shaft having an armature core and a commutator mounted thereon, the commutator having commutator bars spaced apart about the shaft with each bar having leading and trailing wire connection devices angularly spaced apart with respect to said shaft. A first wire is connected to a leading wire connection device and a second wire is connected to a leading connection device on the other side of the commutator. The successive coils are separately wound on the armature core from the first and second wires with connection of each wire to a different leading connection device between successive coils. Thereafter further successive coils are separately wound on the core from the wires but now with connection of the wires between successive coils to trailing connection devices until the commutator bars have pairs of electrically parallel coils connected thereto. Armatures can be produced having parallel coils of 17 gauge copper wire by continuous winding with end termination only occurring after completion of winding.

    摘要: A universal powerhead apparatus which is securable to a frame portion of a land vehicle, pump or other tool to replace an existing internal combustion engine of the device without requiring significant modification to the frame portion of the device. The powerhead apparatus includes an electric motor and a universal mounting plate which is secured to a portion of the motor. The universal mounting plate has a footprint substantially similar to that of a specific make and displacement of internal combustion engine which the apparatus is intended to replace. The overall footprint of the apparatus is also similar to the specific make and displacement of a gasoline powered engine which it is designed to replace. The apparatus can be secured directly to a frame portion of a land vehicle, tool or pump in either a horizontal or vertical orientation to thus enable it to be used as a power source for vehicles requiring a horizontally disposed output shaft as well as vehicles requiring a vertically disposed output shaft. The apparatus may be assembled to the land vehicle, tool or pump in a factory or retrofitted to replace a specific make and displacement of gasoline powered engine. In one preferred embodiment, the apparatus is powered by at least one battery disposed within a housing thereof. In an alternative preferred embodiment, the apparatus is powered directly from an AC power source. The use of the apparatus completely eliminates the undesirable emissions produced by internal combustion engines and the periodic maintenance typically associated with such engines.

The assembly includes a locking mechanism (46) selectively engageable with a pivoting trimming blade (40) that pivots between a retracted position and an extended position by centrifugal force. In one embodiment, the locking mechanism is reciprocated between the locked position and the unlocked position based on a rotation direction of the motor. The locking mechanism itself may also be reciprocated by centrifugal force. A spool lock, which is also positioned by centrifugal force, disables automatic string feeding in the blade trimming mode. The trimming tool may also be provided with a blower function incorporating a blower attachment readily attachable as a trimming guard of the trimming tool, or a blower assembly integrated into the tool components.
