Abstract: An information management system includes a storage manager for managing backup and/or restore operations for one or more client computing devices. The storage manager may be in communication with a resource administrator of a computing resource cluster, wherein the resource administrator instantiates one or more computing pods using the computing resource cluster. The resource administrator may receive a request for computing resources from the storage manager and provision the computing pods based on the request. The resource administrator may then select a pre-configured container image from one or more pre-configured container images based on the computing resource request, wherein the pre-configured container image configures a computing pod to create secondary copies of primary data from a particular primary data source of the information management system. The resource administrator may then communicate a message to the storage manager informing the storage of the availability of the provisioned computing pods.

Abstract: A system may measure one or more metrics relating to the performance of a job for a set of occurrences of the job with respect to a data set. The measurements may be used to predict a completion time for a subsequent job or phase of the job on the data set. This prediction may be used to present a more accurate indication of a job completion status on the data set. The process may be repeated or performed separately for each client or set of data to provide an individualized progress meter or indicator. Thus, in some cases, variances in the data or computing systems may be reflected in the displayed progress of the job providing for a more accurate indication of job progress.

Abstract: Embodiments are described for distributed and scalable client-based storage management and microservices-based storage management, which can operate in combination. Embodiments distribute responsibilities and client-specific information needed for storage management jobs away from a central storage manager and its management database. New features and components minimize communications to/from the storage manager and ensure the integrity and synchronization of data being distributed. The management database at the storage manager retains its role as repository of information for the data storage management system as a whole, yet without being a bottleneck to storage operations. Improvements are implemented within the storage manager, through new functionality added to clients, and further through a new micro-server component interposed between storage manager and clients.

Abstract: An illustrative data storage management system uses a control layer that controls information content presented to users and ensures information privacy between diverse tenants and/or resellers who share the system. The system populates a relationship database as transactions roll in (intake processing), and uses information in the relationship database later when processing responses (output processing). The relationship database comprises associations between e.g., a company ID and any number of entities that were created by or on behalf of the company or that are related to the company’s service in the system. The control layer parses raw results that are responsive to requests for information and prevents others’ information from being included in the responsive message(s). The techniques disclosed herein are not limited to shared systems managed by service providers, and may be implemented in fully owned and operated systems to add security and privacy among diverse users and/or departments.

Abstract: In general, a data synchronization management system is disclosed in which files (and/or other data) are synchronized among two or more client computing devices in connection with a backup of those files. Synchronization polices specify files to be synchronized based on selected criteria including file data, metadata, and location information. In general, files are initially copied from a primary client computing device to secondary storage. Thereafter, files to be synchronized are identified from the secondary storage, and copied to other client computing devices.
