Abstract: The invention relates to a temperature responsive switch assembly of the type having a pivotally mounted lever attached to a snap action spring with the lever being pivotally movable in response to opposing forces provided by a rated spring and a vapor containing working element. The moving contact of the switch is attached to the lever. Although the vapor pressure curve of the working element is not linear, the temperature differentials between the switch on and off temperatures are kept substantially constant for the whole range of nominal temperature settings for the system. This object is achieved by an arrangement in which the line of force of the rated spring forms an acute angle with the lever which angle is of a selected magnitude that compensates for the nonlinearity of the vapor pressure curve of the working element is provided.

Abstract: The invention relates to a snap action switch assembly which in addition to the usual contact switch means has a middle or normal range bound by movable stops which movement is proportional to or determined by the amount of force applied thereto through an actuating lever. The actuating lever is not only acted upon by moderate forces in the usual way to provide the usual control but, in addition, is also acted upon by larger forces in response to extreme conditions in a system. These larger forces move the displaceable stops and one or more auxiliary switch means are provided which are actuated under these circumstances to provide control under the extreme conditions referred to.
