    摘要: This invention provides block copolymers containing ester linkages and polymerized units of ethylenically unsaturated monomers and a process for their preparation. The process is characterized by polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of Lewis Acid and an acid polyhalide to give a omega , omega ''-dihalopolymer, which is then converted by hydrolysis into omega , omega ''-dihydroxypolymer, which is, directly or indirectly in the form of its ester, polymerized with a polycondensable monomer such as a diol, and its ester; dicarboxylic acid, its ester, its halide; hydroxy carboxylic acid, and its ester, to give the block copolymer. The new polymers are useful for applications in which polyesters of special properties are required. These new polymers are useful for many practical applications, since they can be cast or spun into films, fibers, plastics, etc., depending upon their compositions and types of monomer. For example, polystyrene ethylene terephthalate can be used as a plastic in a richer composition of styrene units, and as a fiber or as a film in a richer composition of ethylene terephthalate units.

    摘要: A process of preparing graft polymers with graft chains consisting of ring-opened units of at least one of the cyclic monomers Beta -propiolactone, Epsilon -caprolactone, and ethylene oxide which comprises reacting said cyclic monomers with homopolymers or co-polymers consisting of vinyl units containing carboxylate ions -COO . The invention also relates to the graft polymers so prepared. These graft polymers are colorless, easy to dye, have a high degree of plasticity, and low tendency to develop electrostatic charge. Depending on the graft ratio, which may be controlled, materials useful as adhesives, gums and paints may be produced having high graft ratios, while materials with low graft ratios are used for fibers, plastics and films.

    摘要: This invention provides a process for manufacturing block copolymers containing amide linkages and polymerized units of ethylenically unsaturated monomers. The process is characterized by polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the presence of a Lewis Acid and an acid polyhalide to give a omega , omega ''-dihalopolymer, which is then converted by ammonolysis or aminolysis into a omega , omega ''-diaminopolymer, which, in turn, is polymerized with a polycondensable monomer such as an amino acid, an ester of an amino acid, a diamine, a dicarboxylic acid, and ester of dicarboxylic acid, dicarboxyloyl halide to give the block copolymer. These new polymers are useful for conventional applications of polyamides and polyvinyl compounds, particularly in those instances where defects of either type of polymer require improvement. These new polymers are useful for many practical applications, since they can be cast or spun into films, fibers, plastics, etc. depending upon their compositions and types of monomers. For example, polystyrenecaproamide can be used as a plastic in a richer composition of caproamide units, and also as a film in the medium composition balance.
