摘要: Apparatus and methods for joining panels are presented. Panels may be commercial off the shelf (COTS) panels and/or additively manufactured panels; and panels can be joined using an additively manufactured interconnect unit. Notches and protrusions can be formed in the panels and in the interconnect unit to facilitate the connection of the panels with the interconnect unit. In another approach a ribbed triangular prism can be manufactured using three dimensional (3D) printing. The panels can then be joined by inserting the ribbed triangular prism between the panels and by using an adhesive for bonding.

摘要: Systems and methods for beam scanning for powder bed fusion (PBF) systems are provided. A PBF apparatus can include a structure that supports a layer of powder material, an energy beam source that generates an energy beam, and a deflector that applies the energy beam to fuse an area of the powder material in the layer at multiple locations, the deflector being further configured to apply the energy beam to each of the locations multiple times. A PBF apparatus can include a deflector configured to provide multiple scans to a layer powder material supported by the structure. A PBF apparatus can include a deflector that applies the energy beam to fuse an area of the powder material in the layer at multiple locations, the deflector being further configured to apply the energy beam in a raster scan.

Support structures can be formed of bound powder, which can be, for example, compacted powder, compacted and sintered powder, powder with a binding agent applied, etc. Support structures can be formed of non-powder support material, such as a foam. Support structures can be formed to include resonant structures that can be removed by applying a resonance frequency. Support structures can be formed to include structures configured to melt when electrical current is applied for easy removal.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for additively manufactured O-ring grooves are presented herein. An O-ring groove is additively manufactured to have a vertical face, bottom face, and an opposite face. By additively manufacturing the opposite face to be outwardly facing with an obtuse angle, the O-ring groove can be built without the need for support structures, thereby reducing post processing steps and manufacturing cost.

摘要: Systems and methods for material handling in additive manufacturing systems are provided. Environmental control can decrease exposure of a powder to substances that change a material property of the powder and/or that change a property of a build piece formed from fusing the powder. Powders can be mixed for use in PBF systems. For example, a powder that has been through a printing operation can be reused by mixing the reuse powder with new powder. Powder can be recovered after a printing operation and reused, recycled into new powder, etc. Powder can be decontaminated for better reusability.

A PBF apparatus can include a structure that supports a layer of powder material having a plurality of particles of powder. For example, the structure can be a build plate, a build floor, a build piece, etc. The apparatus can also include an energy beam source that generates an energy beam and a deflector that applies the energy beam to fuse an area of the powder material in the layer. The energy beam can electrically charge the particles of powder. The apparatus can also include an electrical system that generates an electrical force between the structure and the charged particles of powder. For example, the electrical system can include a voltage source that applies a first voltage to the structure.

Embodiments include co-printed caps, friction welded caps, rivets, silicone plugs, co-printed tangs, multiple micro holes, layup, and spin forming. By using one or more of the above techniques, powder holes can be sealed on additively manufactured parts.
