Abstract: A pneumatic tire is provided with a tread having a traction pattern consisting of grooves. The tread pattern inhibits stone penetration within the tread by suspending or cradling the stone spatially from the bottom of the groove. The grooves are provided with transverse crossbars or buttresses having a configuration and dimension relative to the groove to support or cradle a stone above the bottom of the groove.
