Briefly described, one embodiment comprises white balance compensating a strobed image data and a nonstrobed image data using a first white balance compensation value corresponding to supplemental illumination provided by a supplemental illumination source, determining a difference between the strobed image data compensated with the first white balance compensation value and the nonstrobed image data compensated with the first white balance compensation value, white balance compensating the nonstrobed image data using a second white balance compensation value corresponding to ambient light, and combining the difference to the nonstrobed image white balance compensated using the second white balance compensation value.

    摘要: A method for automatically cropping, rotating, and scaling a scanned image to ensure that a printed copy of the scanned image is the same size as the original, when possible. The method attempts to honor the default or operator designated orientation of the printed image, but will automatically rotate the image if that will eliminate unnecessary image reduction. Optimal orientation and scaling factors are automatically determined based on the target page size and the size and shape of the information of interest in the original image (not the boundaries of the original document). The operator selects a desired printed orientation (or accepts a default orientation) and selects a desired printed paper size (or accepts a default printed paper size). If an image will fit within the printable margins without rotation or cropping, the image is simply printed without modification. If the image will fit without rotation by cropping white space, then white space is cropped. If the image with all white space cropped will still not fit, the image is oriented so that long sides on the cropped image align with long sides on the printed paper. If the cropped and rotated image still does not fit, the cropped image is scaled to fit within the printable margins and the image is oriented so that long sides on the cropped image align with long sides on the printed paper.

    摘要: A document scanner generates an 8-bit binary word for each picture element (PEL) of a document. One of a group of 256 different binary words is thereby generated in accordance with the image/background content of each document PEL. These scan words vary in magnitude from hexadecimal "00" to "FF", representing a PEL containing only white background, or representing a PEL containing only the most dense black portion of the document's image, respectively. An intensity and/or contrast look-up table memory element, or a computation means, each having 256 addressable locations or inputs, is addressed using the scan words. Each storage location or input is addressed by one of the 256 possible document PEL words. The stored content of each storage location in the look-up table memory element, or the value that is computed by the computation means, comprises an enhanced 8-bit binary word that varies as a function of user selected image intensity and/or contrast enhancement. In this way, each document PEL scan word produces its intensity and/or contrast enhanced equivalent PEL word.
