摘要: A covert material for printing onto a printing medium is provided, the covert material comprising a covert pigment and a binder encapsulating the covert pigment into a particle, where the binder comprises at least one of cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB), butyral vinyl acetate, acetyl butyrate, and acetate butyrate. Alternatively, the binder comprises at least one of polyester, polyolefin, acetyl butyrate, acetate butyrate, polystyrene copolymer, and polystyrene-polyvinylpyridine. The covert material can comprise additional components, such as ethyl acetate and/or n-propyl acetate. In one embodiment, the covert pigment comprises about 0.5-5% of the covert material. In one embodiment, the binder comprises about 5-30% of the covert material. In one advantageous embodiment, the covert pigment comprises at least 2% of the covert material and the binder comprises about 20-25% of the covert material. The covert material can further comprise at least one of a colorant, a surface additive, and a magnetic particle. The covert material can be part of a toner or ink. In at least some embodiments, the particle can have many different sizes, including sizes greater than 1 micron, greater than 5 microns, and greater than 20 microns. In one embodiment, the covert printing material is constructed and arranged to be printed using a printer having a predetermined resolution, wherein the particle has a size that is substantially the same as the size of a single pixel or dot printed using the predetermined resolution. The covert material can be constructed and arranged to satisfy a predetermined number of the NCITS 322 tests.

摘要: A non-reactive but highly absorbent material, such as clay, is incorporated into polyolefin/silica matrix to form a core document substrate. This material may be added to create a distinctive look of the document. Clay particles are added to the polyolefin/silica matrix in measured quantities at a known particle size distribution so that the core looks substantially the same from the front, back and side to the curious viewer. Addition of a covert component, such as a UV pigment, allows a covert characteristic and it also allows a mathematical description to be calculated describing the random distribution of a specific area on a document and then captured on it (e.g., in the bar code or magnetic stripe or digital watermark on an ID document). Each document is unique virtue of the clay's distribution within the document's core. The material is buried within the document, and the unique distribution for each document is protected by virtue of the construction for the entire length of the document's life. Since the activation and excitation of the UV pigment adhered/adsorbed onto the surface will not be disturbed by wear and tear, the signature will remain constant over the life of the card.

摘要: An information-bearing laminar assembly, suitable for use as an identification card, is disclosed. The assembly is characterized by the provision therein of an embedded halftone image security feature that becomes visible essentially only when the assembly is view in transmitted light. The information-bearing laminar assembly comprises an inner information-bearing layer interposed between a first and a second light-transmissive protective outer layer. The inner layer contains both visible information-bearing indicia and an imagewise halftone pattern of laser-ablated microholes. The light-transmissivity of the information-bearing inner layer within said half-tone pattern is imagewise differentiated at each microhole as a function of the microhole's penetration depth. Sandwiched between the protective outer layers, the halftone pattern is imperceptible when the information-bearing laminar assembly is viewed in reflections and perceptible when the information-bearing laminar assembly is viewed in transmission.
