    摘要： An improved biological aerosol chemiluminescent (CL) detection system having optimal sensitivity and a method for using the same in detecting the presence of biological materials in an aerosol sample. The detection system comprises a cyclone aerosol sampler, a CL reagent injector, and a luminometer, wherein the CL reagent injector is mated with the cyclone aerosol sampler so as to deliver/introduce CL reagent thereto. The inner surface of the cyclone aerosol sampler and the inner surface of the CL reagent injector are fabricated from materials that are free of metals that would initiate a CL-based reaction with a CL reagent to be employed therein so as to provide a CL reagent path free of these metals. The entire CL reagent path in the biological aerosol CL detection apparatus is comprised of these materials. A method for determining the suitability of materials for use throughout the CL reagent path of the biological CL detection system is also taught.

    摘要： A hyperdermic syringe having a plunger which separates from a piston inside a barrel of the syringe after a downward stroke of the plunger preventing reuse of the syringe. The plunger breaks breakaway portions mounted inside the piston when pushed downward to unload the syringe effectively separating the plunger from the piston and destroying the syringe, preventing the piston from being withdrawn for the purpose of reloading the syringe. In another embodiment, a connector is used to releasably engage a plunger to a piston. Downward movement of the plunger causes upward extensions of the connector to move toward each other and lock together. The plunger disengages from the connector and piston after the extension lock together. A modified tip portion of a barrel containing a valve ball and valve flaps may be used to prevent the syringe from being used after a single use discharging medicinal fluid from the syringe. The valve ball blocks flow of medicinal fluid into the syringe after use of the syringe. The modified tip portion may be used alone or in conjunction with the designs which disengage the plunger from the piston after a single use of the syringe.

    摘要： A safety pipette is characterized in that an openable seal (6) is present within the pipette, necessitating the use of a forcing element (9) to hold the seal in an open position in order to use the pipette. Pipette inserts provide the seal in standard pipettes. Pipette adaptors provide the necessary forcing element. Pipette supports or nosepieces for pipetting devices are modified with a pipette adapter (8) allowing the use of safety pipettes. The forcing element is a pin, or rod, firmly made part of a nosepiece, or an adaptor that moves a flap or ball within a pipette away from a closed position into an open position, allowing air flow through the safety pipette. Kits comprise modified nosepieces or replacement elements thereof with safety pipettes per se, or with safety pipette inserts, and kits comprise pipette adaptors with safety pipettes or safety pipette inserts.
