摘要： Provided are a system and article of manufacture for performing scheduled backups of a backup node associated with a plurality of agent nodes. Backup data sets on at least one machine in a network are associated with a backup node and a plurality of agent nodes in the network are associated with the backup node. The agent nodes are associated with machines in the network capable of backing up the backup data sets associated with the backup node. A schedule indicating a scheduled backup to backup scheduled data sets associated with the backup node is processed. At least one of the agent nodes is contacted to request the at least one agent node to perform the scheduled backup and backup the scheduled data sets, wherein the at least one contacted agent node performs the scheduled backup to backup the scheduled backup sets.

摘要： The present invention provides a system and method for remotely accessing a client in a client-server system. From a browser, an end user enters a URL containing a machine name and a port number. A listening program at the client listening on that port number establishes communication with the browser and invokes a client agent. The client agent includes conventional client functions as well as APIs that allow the client to interface with both the server and the browser. The client agent then serves an applet to the browser that makes the browser appear to the end user as the client machine. The user can then execute client functions from the browser. Examples of the client functions include backing up and restoring files from the client to/from the server, migrating or recalling files, archiving or retrieving files.

摘要： An apparatus for adaptive polling of a monitored system includes a poll receiving module configured to receive a polling signal from a polling system, an event prediction module configured to predict when an operation-related event of a monitored operation will occur in the monitored system, a next polling time determination module configured to determine a next polling time based on the prediction of when the operation-related event will occur in the monitored system and a polling response module configured to communicate the next polling time and monitored system operation information to the polling system. In one embodiment, the next polling time determination module is further configured to determine the next polling time based on the prediction of when the operation-related event will occur and on network traffic.

摘要： A system and method to efficiently back up files while preserving memory resources. The system includes a generation module to generate an unordered list of backup files and associated attributes, and a processing module to back up local files one at a time by modifying the backup files to reflect changes to the local files. The processing module may include a retrieval module to retrieve local file attribute information from the hard disk, a comparator module to compare the local file attributes to corresponding backup file information on the list, and an update module to update the corresponding backup file to reflect any differences. In this manner, the present invention avoids processing limitations caused by insufficient memory and/or excessive quantities of local files.
