摘要: As apparatus for producing items in selected configurations and a system and method for controlling the same. The apparatus includes a laser printer and folding sealing apparatus controlled by a data processor. The folder sealer apparatus combines sheets printed by the laser printer with pre-printed sheets and envelope forms, which also may be printed by the laser printer. The apparatus folds the sheets as necessary and folds and seals the envelope form about the folded sheets to produce a mail piece. A user inputs a configuration for the mail piece which is translated by the data processor and transmitted to the controller of the folder sealer apparatus. The controller controls the laser printer and the folder sealer to produce the mail piece in the defined configuration. Concurrently the data processor transmits text from an output file to the laser printer for printing on printed sheets and envelope forms. The data processor also controls the laser printer to print an address for the mail piece. Thus the apparatus is controlled to process an output file into a mail run. A sheet feeder for feeding sheets and envelope forms to the apparatus is also disclosed. The sheet feeder includes a take-up mechanism and a separating mechanism for singulating sheets. The separating mechanism includes a pair of crown rollers positioned above and between a pair of fixed, quarter-round retarding elements which extend in the feed direction. A top sheet is corrugated sufficiently that drag forces between it and a next sheet are reduced. A plate is positioned downstream from the separating mechanism to decorrugating the top sheet.

摘要: A mailing machine is disclosed having an elongate feed deck, means for feeding envelopes along the feed deck, and a postage meter mounted in the mailing machine and having a printing mechanism disposed in juxtaposition with the feed deck so as to print postage indicia on successive envelopes as they are fed along the feed deck. The mailing machine includes a tape feeding and cutting apparatus mounted above the feed deck and adjacent to the postage meter on the side thereof opposite to the direction of feed of envelopes along the feed deck for feeding successive finite lengths of tape to the postage meter for printing of postage indicia on a portion thereof and for cutting and ejecting the printed portion of the finite length of tape from the mailing machine. The tape feeding and cutting apparatus is constructed and arranged so that all of the tape storing, feeding, severing and ejecting mechanisms of the apparatus are all positioned entirely one one side of the postage meter.

摘要: A poster meter is insertable into and removable from a mail machine base receptacle. The postage meter includes a shutter bar which is slidably mounted to the meter. The shutter bar is positionable between a first position where the shutter bar is located opposite and blocking external access to the indicia plate of the meter and in a second position, the shutter bar is laterally positioned from said indicia plate. The receptacle is pivotally mounted to mailing machine base and includes a shutter bar locking mechanism for engaging the shutter bar in the shutter bar's first position and for slidably positioning the shutter bar between the first and second position. A brush assembly is mounted to the shutter bar for brushing or sweeping the indicia plate upon reciprocal displacement of the shutter bar between the first and second positions.

摘要: An apparatus for producing items in selected configurations and a system and method for controlling the same. More particularly, an apparatus for producing mail pieces and a system and method for controlling it to produce mail pieces in a variety of configurations are disclosed. The apparatus includes a laser printer and folding sealing apparatus controlled by a data processor. The folder sealer apparatus combines sheets printed by the laser printer with pre-printed sheets and envelope forms, which also may be printed by the laser printer or may be windowed envelopes, folds the sheets as necessary and folds and seals the envelope form about the folded sheets to produce a mail piece. A user inputs a configuration for the mail piece which is translated by the data processor into a data structure and transmitted to the controller of the folder sealer apparatus. The controller controls devices comprised in the laser printer and the folder sealer by executing state routines in accordance with the data structure to produce the mail piece in the defined configuration. Concurrently the data processor transmits text from an output file to the laser printer for printing on printed sheets and envelope forms. The data processor also controls the laser printer to print an address for the mail piece either on an envelope form or on a printed sheet in a position where it will be visible through the envelope. Thus the apparatus is controlled to process an output file stored in the data processor into a mail run having a selected configuration. A mechanism and method for laterally aligning an accumulation of sheets is also disclosed, together with a cantilevered urge roller for the aligning mechanism.

摘要: A combined copy machine and fax signal production device wherein the scanning system of the copy machine is employed to direct stray light from a document being scanned to a second lens, without displacing the copy lens. The second lens images the document on a linear photoreceptor array, such as a CCD. A control system produces fax signals from the output of the linear array, and may also control the scanning speed of the apparatus to be optimum for the generation of fax signals.

摘要: A mailing machine in which the mail is directed to a weighing station and laterally deflected at the weighing station, to enable overlap in the feeding of mailpieces to the weighing station. The weighing station includes means for stopping the mailpieces from movement in the direction in which they had been transported thereto. The transport path of the mail in the machine may be vertically V-shaped, or horizontally in parallel paths that are preferably in opposite directions. The input feeder may include two serially coupled horizontal conveyors for conveying horizontal stacks or vertical oriented envelopes, with the first of the conveyors running a slower speed than the last conveyor. A vertical conveyor advantageous transports the envelopes from the last horizontal conveyor.

摘要: A carrier bead pickoff device for removal of carrier beads adhering to a charge retentive surface in an electrophotographic device having at least one developer housing movable into and out of developing position includes a magnet supported on the movable developer housing of the type which is movable into and out of developing position with respect to the photoreceptor. When the developer housing is moved into developing position, the magnet is correspondingly brought into a position closely adjacent to a non-magnetic carrier bead catch supported closely adjacent to the charge retentive surface. Beads are collected at the bead catch and released upon removal of the magnet from proximity to the bead catch. The non-magnetic bead catch may be supported for movement into a bead catching position when the developer housing is brought into developing position, and to a bead releasing position when the developer is removed from developing position and the magnet is removed from its position adjacent the bead catch. When the bead catch is in bead catching position, the magnet is supported so that removed beads are collected at the bead catch by the magnetic force. When the magnet is removed from that position, there is no longer a magnetic force attracting beads to the bead catch, and the movement of the bead catch to a bead release position allows collected beads to fall to a storage location.

摘要: The inking module includes a plurality of first links extending horizontally and parallel. One end of the first links are fixably mounted to an ink pad tray, the other end of the first links having formed thereat a tilting surface. 摘要: In a drive system for a document feeder transport for a copier with a drive output normally driven at a high speed for document transport and driven at a lower speed for document registration at a registration position, the improvement wherein the drive system comprises a drive motor and a high speed drive normally driving the document feeder transport through a normally closed clutch in the high speed drive, and a reduction speed system also simultaneously driven by the drive motor, the reduction speed system including a normally over-driven over-running clutch connected to, but normally disengaged by, the high speed drive, and a system for automatically rapidly and smoothly switching the drive output to the lower speed, as the document approaches the registration position, by opening the normally closed clutch in response thereto, whereby the high speed drive is disengaged and shortly thereafter the reduction speed system automatically begins to drive the drive output at the lower speed by the automatic engagement of the over-running clutch upon the slowing down of the drive output to the lower speed. Preferably the normally closed clutch and the normally over-driven over-running clutch and the drive output are axially combined on a common drive shaft.

摘要: An apparatus in which a belt is supported by a fixed mounting and a movable mounting. In the operative position, the fixed mounting maintains at least a portion of the belt generally planar. During operation, the movable mounting deflects the planar portion of the belt to the operative position. In order to remove the belt, the movable mounting is returned to the inoperative position with the belt being undeflected. This facilitates removal of the belt from the mounting.
