摘要: The present invention relates to a communication system (10) that allows members (14) to receive a wide variety of digital information and documents from senders (12). The system is comprised of a communication server (16) having: a member registration facility (20), configured to enable registration of individuals as members within the communication system; a sender registration facility (18) configured to enable registration of organisations as senders within the communication system; a SAM code generator (32), configured to generate a SAM code in response to a request from a sender to connect with a member and to forward the SAM code to the sender; and a communication facility (64) adapted to receive digital communication items including the SAM code and to direct digital communication items to members; and an address database (68) operatively coupled to the communication server, for storing the generated SAM codes.

摘要: Reputation systems have been used to promote trust between participants in activities including online activities such as online market places. Existing online market places provide a reputation system which is a simple cumulative registry of user ratings on a given market place member. However, this simple system is open to abuse in situations where, for example, many positive ratings are given in a fraudulent manner. By modeling both reputation of participants and required reputation of participants an improved reputation system is provided. The required reputation may be thought of as a threshold, referred to herein as a required threshold, which may be used in determining how to update an indication of the reputation of a participant in the activity. The reputation system is able to learn information about required reputation and reputation of participants using an update process which is robust to participants who consistently give feedback of a particular type.

摘要: In particular, systems and methods are provided for delivering a discount using a virtual currency. Inventive systems and methods offer a high perceived savings value to an end-user while maintaining the perception of product value. Further, systems and methods for providing a discount are described which impose little or no cost on the service or product provider. An embodiment of an inventive method includes presenting a display of a price paid by a consumer without access to the virtual currency along with a display of an amount payable by the end-user in actual currency in combination with an amount payable in virtual currency by an end-user of an inventive system. The end-user perceives a benefit to using the virtual currency since the price paid in actual currency is less than the displayed price to be paid by a consumer without access to the virtual currency.

摘要: A generalized approach to particle interaction can confer advantages over previously described method in terms of one or more of communications bandwidth and latency and memory access characteristics. These generalizations can involve one or more of at least spatial decomposition, import region rounding, and multiple zone communication scheduling. An architecture for computation of particle interactions makes use various forms of parallelism. In one implementation, the parallelism involves using multiple computation nodes arranged according to a geometric partitioning of a simulation volume.

摘要: A replication process to provide fault tolerance for a streaming signal in a computer network. In one embodiment, the original or source signal is sent to several splitters which, in turn, each make copies of the signal and send the copies into a second layer of devices, which are referred to as “concentrators.” A given concentrator receives as input one or more copies of the source signal. In a preferred embodiment, a given concentrator receives two copies of the source signal from at least two different splitters. The concentrators process the incoming streaming signal copies, for example, by merging them into a single or composite copy of the original source signal according to a given processing algorithm. The output of a given concentrator may then be fed into a splitter, with the process then being repeated if desired to make an arbitrary large number of copies of the signal. At the end of the replication process, the output of a splitter or a concentrator is fed directly or indirectly to an end user. The replication process is fault-tolerant, and thus the end user's signal is not interrupted regardless of signal or equipment problems within the distribution mechanism.

摘要: A separable, lift-off hinge for a vehicle door includes two separable brackets. Bushings mount to one of the brackets. Pins pivotally connect to the bushings to define the pivotal connection of the hinge. The pins removably mate with openings in the other bracket so that the brackets may be attached to each other and detached from each other by moving the brackets axially relative to each other. The pins and openings have complimentary non-circular cross-sections that prevent the pins from pivoting relative to the openings when the brackets are connected to each other. A fastener removably attaches to one of the pins to keep the brackets operatively connected to each other.
