摘要: A redundant seal for a vehicle fuel tank filler neck closure is provided for closing and opening an automobile fuel tank to the atmosphere. The redundant seal (48) includes a lower shoulder (51) which sealably engages a first valve seat and an upper shoulder (53) which sealably engages a second valve seat. The redundant seal (48) is appropriate for use in applications such as filler neck closures, pressure and vacuum-relief systems within tank filler neck closures, and capless filler neck closure systems.

摘要: A closure assembly includes a filler neck, a housing, and an appearance cover. The housing includes a nozzle-receiving passageway and an interior region. A closure door is coupled to housing and prevents fuel vapor from flowing through passageway. A pressure-relief valve assembly is positioned within interior region and controls the flow of fuel vapor through interior region when the closure door is closed. A valve actuator is coupled to housing and includes a nozzle arm, a stem arm, and a conductor arm. Stem arm moves with nozzle arm and opens pressure-relief valve assembly when nozzle arm is engaged by a fuel-dispensing nozzle upon movement of a nozzle into passageway. A conductor arm is coupled to nozzle arm and is positioned to contact filler neck through an opening in housing. When a nozzle contacts the nozzle arm, any electrical charge present on the fuel-dispensing nozzle is conducted through nozzle arm and conductor arm to the filler neck.

摘要: A fuel tank filler apparatus includes a fuel tank filler neck, a pressure-relief valve coupled to the fuel tank filler neck, and a filler neck closure coupled to the fuel tank filler neck. The filler neck closure includes a drainage basin configured to collect liquid fuel, a retention chamber configured to store liquid fuel, and a fuel conductor configured to communicate liquid fuel between the drainage basin and the retention chamber. The filler neck closure can also include a blocker positioned to pivot about a pivot axis between a normally closed position blocking a fuel-receiving passage and an opened position permitting liquid fuel to flow through the fuel-receiving passage to the fuel tank.

摘要: A fuel cap tester kit containing a plurality of fuel cap adapters, wherein each adapter has a mouth opening, outer rim, cap receiving chamber, air supply passageway and a fuel cap connection opening and with each fuel cap opening being configured to engage and retain a different and specifically configured fuel cap, and wherein each adapter is also provided with a threaded base connection that cooperates with a complimentary threaded connection on a test base that is fluidly connected to a pressure source and tester apparatus and wherein the base connectors of each adapter are configured alike so that each adapter can be connected to the single threaded connector in the test base to permit testing of different size fuel caps dependent on the adapter threaded into the test base, where the tester kit is used to decide upon quality of fuel caps under test by determining a leakage rate of pressurized air from the cap-receiving chamber through the mouth opening.

Outer shell (44) includes frangible tabs (260) that break away from the rest of outer shell (44) in a controlled manner when outer shell (44) is subjected to an impact during a vehicle crash. Outer shell (44) is formed to include a fluid drain (421) and closure assembly (20) includes a float (425) that closes fluid drain (421) and that moves to open fluid drain (421) to allow accumulated fluid to drain out of outer shell (44).

摘要: A cap is provided for use in the filler neck of a tank. The cap includes a closure mechanism for closing the filler neck and a handle mechanism for rotating the closure mechanism relative to the filler neck to a sealed position engaging the filler neck and establishing a sealed connection between the closure mechanism and the filler neck. The cap also includes a delayed actuation mechanism for providing a lost-motion driving connection between the handle mechanism and the closure mechanism and an indicator mechanism for providing an indication of sealed closure of the filler neck upon movement of the closure mechanism in the filler neck to its sealed position. The indicator mechanism includes an indicator affixed to the delayed actuation mechanism and the indicator is a reflective member visible to a user of the fuel cap.

摘要: A quick-on cap (10) is provided for engaging a filler neck (22). The cap (10) includes a closure for closing the mouth of the filler neck (22) and a gripping mechanism for gripping the filler neck (22) to establish a fuel vapor seal between the closure and the filler neck (22). The closure includes a core (18) and a sleeve (14) that is movable relative to the core (18). The sleeve (14) carries a sealing ring (34) that is configured to seal against the filler neck (22). The gripping mechanism is coupled to the core (18) and sleeve (14) and grips the filler neck (22) to compress the sealing ring (34) between the sleeve (14) and the filler neck (22) in response to movement of the core (18) relative to the sleeve (14) in a cap-installation direction. The closure also includes a handle cover (12) coupled to the core (18) to make it easy for a user to move the core (18) relative to the sleeve (14) in the cap-installation direction an amount sufficient to actuate the gripping mechanism. The sleeve (14) is formed to include a passageway extending therethrough and containing the cylindrical core (18). The core (18) is rotated a fraction of a turn relative to the sleeve (14) to actuate the gripping mechanism.

摘要: A heat radiating briquette for a cooking grill is formed of a suitable ceramic refractory or other material to have a rectilinear, flat base, a pyramid upstanding from the base and a perimetric trough encompassing the base of the pyramid. Each face of the pyramid is provided with a series of grooves extending from the apex to the base of the pyramid and communicating with the trough. A multiplicity of like briquettes are to be arranged over the surface of a supporting grate spaced below with their apices pointed upwardly toward the food support grill and spaced above the heat source of the food grill. The side edges of adjacent briquettes on the grate are abutting so as to substantially prevent inadvertent seepage of food renderings to the heat source. Renderings from food cooking on the food supporting grill impinge on the briquettes and flow downwardly along the grooves to collect in the trough. The heat source heats the briquettes and the renderings in the trough so that heat is radiated from both briquettes and renderings upwardly to cook the food on the food supporting grill.

摘要: A pressure relief and venting closure cap for a filler neck of a vehicle gas or coolant system tank having an initial rotary drive which opens a vent valve in response to a differential movement between a cap shell and a vent valve actuator to vent the filler neck and wherein continued rotation of the cap shell causes disconnection of the cap shell and the filler neck. There are two separate drives from the cap shell, one to operate the vent valve and one to rotate a sealing element which screwingly connects the cap to the filler neck. A lost motion connection is provided for the drive to the sealing element so that disconnection can only take place after venting. A torque over-ride is provided for the closure to limit its rotary closing screwing movement after the vent valve is closed. A second drive between the lost motion connection and the vent valve is provided to stop differential rotation between the cap shell and the vent valve actuator when the closure member is rotated.
