Abstract: An atomizer includes an atomizer body with a plurality of air passages defined therethrough from an upstream end of the atomizer body to a downstream end thereof. The air passages together define an air circuit through the atomizer body. A fuel circuit is defined in the atomizer body extending from a fuel inlet to a respective fuel outlet opening into each air passage. The air passages can be arranged circumferentially about a central axis defined by the atomizer body. The fuel circuit can include a manifold extending circumferentially about the atomizer body in fluid communication with a fuel opening in each respective air passage.

Abstract: A pilot nozzle for a dual fuel turbine engine includes an inner air circuit, a gaseous fuel circuit radially outward from the inner air circuit, a liquid fuel circuit radially outward from the inner air circuit, an outer air circuit radially outward from the liquid fuel circuit and the gaseous fuel circuit, and a shroud radially outward from the outer air circuit. The shroud is configured to stabilize a pilot re-circulation zone downstream from outlets of the inner and outer air circuits and the liquid and gaseous fuel circuits.

Abstract: A nozzle includes a nozzle body defining a liquid circuit extending from a liquid inlet to a liquid outlet. The liquid circuit includes a plurality of spiral liquid passages spiraling radially inward relative to a spray axis. The spiral liquid passages all lie in a plane normal to the spray axis. A manifold assembly includes a plurality of such nozzles. A manifold ring is in fluid communication with the liquid inlet of each of the nozzles to deliver liquid to the nozzles. The nozzles are circumferentially spaced apart around the manifold ring.

Abstract: A multipoint injection system includes a manifold with a plurality of flow passages defined through the manifold in the circumferential direction. The flow passages are spaced apart from one another in an axial direction. A plurality of feed arms extends radially inward from the manifold. Feed arm portions of the flow passages extend through each of the feed arms to respective outlets. The feed arm portions of the flow passages are within the axial width of the manifold. A plurality of injection nozzles are included, each in fluid communication with a respective one of the outlets. Each injection nozzle includes an air passage therethrough with an air inlet. The feed arms each follow a path that is circumferentially offset from the air inlets so each of the feed arms is clear from a flow path directly upstream in the axial direction of each of the air inlets.

Abstract: A fuel injector for a turbomachine includes an inner heat shield having an air cavity wall defining an air cavity for allowing air to flow therethrough. The inner heat shield includes an integral air swirler forming a downstream end thereof. The integral air swirler extends in an axially downstream direction at least as far as a fuel distribution channel defined on or in a fuel distributor of the injector to direct airflow at an outlet of the fuel distributor.

Abstract: A fuel distributor system for a turbomachine fuel injector can include a plurality of helical fuel flow channels defined between a fuel distributor and a shroud that surrounds the fuel distributor. A wind axis of the helical flow channels is an axial axis of the fuel injector and each of the helical fuel flow channels include an upstream opening configured to be in fluid communication with a liquid fuel source and a downstream opening configured to effuse fuel therefrom. Each of the plurality of helical fuel flow channels can reduce in flow area from the upstream opening to the downstream opening.

Abstract: A fuel conduit for a fuel injector includes a coiled tube with a longitudinal segment arranged along a flow axis and a radial segment. The radial segment extends about the flow axis and is in fluid communication with the longitudinal segment. The wall one or more of the longitudinal and radial segments increases at a thickness transition location offset from a minimum radius of curvature location along the fuel conduit to limit stress within the fuel conduit. Fuel injectors and methods of making fuel injectors are also described.

Abstract: A swirler, such as for swirling air in a fuel injector of a gas turbine engine, includes a swirler body with opposed inlet and outlet ends with a swirler wall extending therebetween along a longitudinal axis. The inlet end of the swirler body defines an inlet opening. A plurality of swirl slots is defined through a portion of the swirler wall that converges toward the longitudinal axis in a direction from the inlet opening toward the outlet end of the swirler body. The swirl slots are radially off-set with respect to the longitudinal axis for imparting swirl on a flow passing from the inlet opening, through the swirl slots, and past the outlet end of the swirler body.

Abstract: A system for inspecting spray nozzles includes a nozzle operatively connected to a source of pressurized liquid for issuing a spray from the nozzle. The system also includes a sensor positioned to detect frequencies of resonant modes in the spray. The nozzle and sensor can each be mounted to a spray test booth. A method of inspecting a spray nozzle includes issuing a liquid from a spray nozzle as a spray and using a sensor to detect frequencies of resonant modes in the spray. The sensor can include a diaphragm and detecting frequencies can include impinging at least some of the spray on the diaphragm, and monitoring vibrations of the diaphragm.
