Abstract: A torch igniter system for a combustor of a gas turbine engine includes a housing defining a combustion chamber, an ignition source disposed at least partially in the combustion chamber, a fuel injector, a first fluid path connecting a first fuel source to the fuel injector, a second fluid path connecting an air source to the fuel injector, and a third fluid path connecting a second fuel source to the combustion chamber. The fuel injector is configured to inject fuel, air, or a mixture of fuel and air into the combustion chamber and to impinge on the ignition source.

Abstract: An atomizer includes an atomizer body with a plurality of air passages defined therethrough from an upstream end of the atomizer body to a downstream end thereof. The air passages together define an air circuit through the atomizer body. A fuel circuit is defined in the atomizer body extending from a fuel inlet to a respective fuel outlet opening into each air passage. The air passages can be arranged circumferentially about a central axis defined by the atomizer body. The fuel circuit can include a manifold extending circumferentially about the atomizer body in fluid communication with a fuel opening in each respective air passage.

Abstract: An embodiment of a combustor for a gas turbine engine includes a combustor case, a combustor liner disposed within the combustor case, a fuel nozzle, and a torch igniter within the combustor case. The torch igniter includes a combustion chamber, a cap defining the upstream end of the combustion chamber and configured to receive a fuel injector and a surface igniter, a tip defining the downstream end of the combustion chamber, an annular igniter wall extending from the cap to the tip and defining a radial extent of the combustion chamber, a structural wall coaxial with and surrounding the igniter wall, and an outlet passage within the tip that fluidly connects the combustion chamber to the combustor. The torch igniter is situated such that the tip is mounted through the combustor liner, the combustion chamber is within the combustor case, and the cap extends through the combustor case.

The cooling system has an air inlet, a cooling channel, and an aperture. The cooling channel forms a flow path having a first axial section, a second axial section, a radially inward section, and a radially outward section.

Abstract: A fuel injector system for a torch igniter includes an injector body centered on an axis, a receiving aperture formed in a cap of the torch igniter, an injector aperture, an air channel, a fuel channel, and a purge passage formed in a housing of the torch igniter and fluidly connected to a cooling air source. The injector body includes an axial wall at a first axial end of the injector body, an outer wall connected to the axial wall and extending along the axis transverse to the first wall, and an inner portion connected to the axial wall and extending along the axis transverse to the axial wall. An outer surface of the inner portion is spaced a distance from an inner surface of the outer wall, forming an insulating space between the outer wall and the inner portion.

Abstract: A multipoint injection system includes a manifold with a plurality of flow passages defined through the manifold in the circumferential direction. The flow passages are spaced apart from one another in an axial direction. A plurality of feed arms extends radially inward from the manifold. Feed arm portions of the flow passages extend through each of the feed arms to respective outlets. The feed arm portions of the flow passages are within the axial width of the manifold. A plurality of injection nozzles are included, each in fluid communication with a respective one of the outlets. Each injection nozzle includes an air passage therethrough with an air inlet. The feed arms each follow a path that is circumferentially offset from the air inlets so each of the feed arms is clear from a flow path directly upstream in the axial direction of each of the air inlets.

The inner heat shield includes an integral air swirler forming a downstream end thereof. Abstract: A fuel distributor system for a turbomachine fuel injector can include a plurality of helical fuel flow channels defined between a fuel distributor and a shroud that surrounds the fuel distributor. A wind axis of the helical flow channels is an axial axis of the fuel injector and each of the helical fuel flow channels include an upstream opening configured to be in fluid communication with a liquid fuel source and a downstream opening configured to effuse fuel therefrom. Each of the plurality of helical fuel flow channels can reduce in flow area from the upstream opening to the downstream opening.

A polytetrafluoroethylene-based layer overlays the upstream surface between apertures of the aperture array, the polytetrafluorethylene-based layer being conformally disposed over the upstream surface of the plate body and spanning the upstream surface between the apertures of the aperture array to slow deposition of carbonaceous deposits on the filter screen.
