    摘要: A network polymer that contains: (a) a plurality of polymer chains which are derived from one or more ethylenically-unsaturated monomer(s), and (b) at least one linking group which links the polymer chains and which contains anhydride, carbonate, or uretidinedione moieties. The network polymer and other network polymers which contain similar dissociating groups are useful in curable formulations which contain a curable compound that contains: (a) a central moiety, and (b) a plurality of reactive groups which are bonded to the central moiety and which react with acid, hydroxyl, or isocyanate moieties liberated by dissociation of the anhydride, carbonate, or uretidinedione moieties. The curable composition builds viscosity more slowly and more controllably during curing than equivalent systems which do not contain the network polymer. It is useful in coatings and other uses for curable compositions.

    摘要: The production of esters via the reaction of an epoxide with a carboxylic acid hasbeen shown to give improved activity when a strong base macroporous anion exchange resin having an acrylic backbone is used in place of a styrene-divinylbenzene based anion exchange resin having an equivalent exchange capacity. Excellent results are obtained when acrylic acid and propylene oxide are reacted together in the presence of strong base macroporous anion exchange resins which have an acrylic backbone.

    摘要: A process for making an aromatic glycidyl ether epoxy compound by contacting an allyl ether made from the hydroxy moiety of a hydroxy-containing aromatic compound with an inorganic or organic hydroperoxide oxidant in the presence of a transition metal complex catalyst, wherein at least (a) the allyl ether is conformationally restricted or (b) the transition metal complex catalyst contains at least one or more stable ligands attached to the transition metal. The process of the present invention provides for epoxidizing aryl allyl ethers with high epoxidation yield (for example, greater than 70% to 90%) and high hydroperoxide selectivity (for example, greater than 70% to 90%).

    摘要: Chlorinated cycloaliphatic (meth) acrylate compositions are prepared by the reaction of chlorine at a temperature in the range from -30.degree. C. to 50.degree. C. with compositions made by reacting (meth) acrylic acid with crude dicyclopentadiene in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst such as BF.sub.3. The chlorinated compositions have a pleasant fruity odor and are useful to make homopolymers or copolymers which find use as metal coatings, inks, ultraviolet light curable coatings and the like.

    摘要: A process for the production of liquid epoxy resins, including: contacting a polyhydric phenol and an epihalohydrin in the presence of an ionic catalyst to form a halohydrin intermediate reaction product; concurrently: reacting a portion of the halohydrin intermediate reaction product with an alkali hydroxide to form a solid salt suspended in a liquid mixture including a dehydrohalogenated product and unreacted halohydrin intermediate, wherein the alkali hydroxide is used at less than a stoichiometric amount; and removing water and epihalohydrin as a vapor from the reacting mixture; separating the solid salt from the liquid mixture; reacting at least a portion of the unreacted halohydrin intermediate with an alkali hydroxide in the presence of water to form an organic mixture including an epoxy resin and unreacted epihalohydrin and an aqueous solution including a salt; separating the aqueous mixture from the organic mixture; and separating the unreacted epihalohydrin from the liquid epoxy resin.
