摘要:
Novel radiation-curable, water-compatible, resinous compositions result from (1) terminally unsaturated molecules which are the esters of an epoxy compound and (2) the reaction product of a glycidyl ether and an unsaturated acid having at least one glycidyl group per molecule converted to an onium salt of a quaternary ammonium or amine salt, with the anion of an inorganic or organic acid.

Novel sulfonium-stabilized, radiation-curable, water-compatible, water-in-oil emulsions and a method of preparation are described. As an example, one such emulsion was prepared by reacting the diglycidyl ether of a polypropylene glycol with essentially a stoichiometric equivalent of acrylic acid, about 0.3 equivalent of bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-sulfide and 1.5 equivalents of H.sub.2 O.

A stable copolymer dispersion is prepared by addition copolymerization of (1) an adduct of an active hydrogen compound, e.g., a polyether polyol, and an active ethylenically unsaturated isocyanate, e. g., 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate with (2) ethylenically unsaturated monomers(s), e.g., styrene or mixture thereof with acrylonitrile, while (1) and (2) are dispersed or dissolved in an excess of an active hydrogen polyfunctional compound. The resulting dispersion has a controlled particle size and a viscosity such that it is suitably employed in the production of polyurethane foams.

A stable copolymer dispersion is prepared by addition copolymerization of (1) a monomeric adduct of an active hydrogen compound, e.g., a polyether polyol, and an acrylyl compound such as methacryloyl chloride with (2) ethylenically unsaturated monomer(s), e.g., styrene or a mixture thereof with acrylonitrile, while (1) and (2) are dispersed or dissolved in an excess of an active hydrogen polyfunctional compound such as a polyether polyol. The molar ratio of acrylyl moiety to active hydrogen compound is less than 0.1:1. The resulting dispersion has a controlled particle size and a viscosity such that it is suitably employed in the production of polyurethane foams.

Sulfonium-stabilized, water-compatible, radiation-curable vinyl ester resins are prepared by the process of reacting an epoxy resin having on the average at least one vicinal epoxy group with a mercaptan and with an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid to form vinyl ester resins containing sulfide moieties which are then reacted with a protonic acid and an alkylene oxide.Compounds so prepared can be diluted with water and used as coatings.

Also disclosed are isocyanate-functional prepolymers of these ester-modified poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahls formed by reactions of the ester-modified poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahls of this invention with excess organic polyisocyanates. Urethane/urea polymers formed by the reactions of the isocyanate-functional prepolymers with polyahls are also disclosed. Also disclosed are urethane/urea polymers comprising the residue of at least one ester-modified poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahl of this invention, the residue of a polyisocyanate and the residue of at least one other polyahl selected from the group consisting of polyamines, polymercaptans and polyfunctional hydroxyl compounds. Novel acid-functional poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahls and their salts having surfactant activities are disclosed. These polyahls have, on the average, at least about 0.05 and up to about and including one hydrophilic terminus per molecule and can be produced by the reaction of a random non-ionic poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahl obtained by reacting a monofunctional alcohol, mercaptan, carboxylic acid, primary or secondary amine, alkyl substituted phenol or alkoxylates thereof with an alkylene carbonate and/or an alkylene oxide and/or carbon dioxide and/or a poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahl, and admixing a compound capable of adding an acidic end group thereto. Novel anionic poly(alkylene carbonate) polyahls are also disclosed. Surfactant compositions comprising the acid-functional polyahls of the invention and other non-ionic surfactants are also disclosed. Moreover, surfactant compositions comprising the novel acid-functional polyahls and other anionic surfactants are also disclosed.

Addition polymerizable polyethers having pendant ethylenically unsaturated urethane groups are usefully employed as flooring materials and in other applications utilizing radiation curable or chemically curable materials. Such urethane polyethers are advantageously prepared by reacting a polyether polyol such as a hydroxy terminated polypropylene glycol with an isocyanatoalkyl ester of an ethylenically unsaturated acid such as 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate.
