Abstract: Described is a variable reference blocking apparatus for blocking an optical article (5). The apparatus comprises an adjustable ring unit (11) having a plurality of concentric members (19,19c,19i) positioned about a central axis. Each concentric member (19,19c,19i) generally comprises a lip region (17) on its upper end that is capable of receiving at least a portion of a front face of the optical article (5). The apparatus further comprises a moveable base (13) in which its upper portion is coupled with a removable insert (7). The removable insert (7) is generally positioned to be centered about the front face of the optical article (5).

Abstract: Described are systems and methods for controlling an ophthalmic lens edging machine are disclosed. The ophthalmic lens edging machine uses an edger code to select a macro or speed for a requested lens edging job. A system for creating and using the edger code may include a Lab Management System (LMS), a lens calculation system, and a lens edging machine. An edger code may be generated using lens data received from a lens management system and edging machine information identifying lens edging machines. The edger code comprises a plurality of characters. Each character is associated with a different feature of a requested edging job. The features of the requested edging job may include, for example, one or more of: a material type, a lens thickness, an edge type, a frame type, a lens coating, a lens shape, a lens ratio, a lens treatment, and an edging machine block type.

Abstract: An ophthalmic lens treatment planning System receives lens and ophthalmic lens treatment information from a customer lens order, identification of available equipment to apply ophthalmic lens treatment(s) from the customer order, and performance and parameters of the available equipment. The ophthalmic lens treatment planning System formulates an optimal ophthalmic lens treatment plan to be implemented by the available equipment to apply the ophthalmic lens treatment(s) from the customer order to the lens. Following application of the optimal ophthalmic lens treatment plan to the lens, the resulting lens may be measured to provide last run results and the last run results may be fed back to the ophthalmic lens treatment planning System to provide further performance and parameters of the available equipment to the ophthalmic lens treatment planning System.
