Abstract: A valvetrain assembly configured to selectively perform a bleeder brake operation includes a rocker arm configured to rotate about a rocker shaft, a camshaft having a lobe configured to impart motion to the rocker arm through a pushrod, and a valve bridge assembly operably associated with the rocker arm and configured to be selectively engaged by the rocker arm to open at least one of a first and second engine valve. An engine brake capsule is operably associated with the valve bridge assembly and configured to operate in a drive mode where the engine brake capsule does not cause the valve bridge assembly to open the first or second engine valves, and a brake mode where the engine brake capsule engages the valve bridge assembly to partially open the first engine valve to perform the bleeder brake operation.

Abstract: A valvetrain for an internal combustion engine includes a camshaft and a rocker arm assembly. The rocker arm assembly includes an electrical device, a rocker arm, and a cam follower. A contact held to the rocker arm abuts a spring attached to a component distinct from the rocker arm assembly to form an interface. The electrical device is powered through the interface. The spring slides over the contact as the rocker arm assembly pivots to actuate a moveable valve. The interface is formed near a pivot axis whereby the motion undergone by the interface is much less than the motion undergone by points on the rocker arm assembly more distal from the axis. Keeping the interface proximate the pivot axis and leaving the spring free to slide over the contact reducing the extent to which the spring undergoes movement and wear during valvetrain operation.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and control systems for a switching rocker arm assembly are disclosed. A switching rocker arm (10) engages a valve (29), the switching rocker arm (10) is movable by contact with a cam (60) having a lift portion (59) and a base circle (58). The switching rocker arm (10) comprises an inner arm (20), an outer arm (12) pivotably secured to the inner arm (20) and having a latch bore, and a latch pin (28) selectively movable between a first position where the latch pin (28) does not contact the inner arm (20), and a second position wherein the latch pin (28) contacts the inner arm (20). A solenoid assembly (500) is energized while the rocker arm is in contact with the lift portion (59) of the cam. The solenoid assembly is direct-acting and overhead and is calibratable with respect to the rocker arm.
