摘要: A process and system for effecting addition and/or subtraction any two symbols having any number of characters and in any base with full precision and without first converting to a common base. Regardless of the quantity of characters of each symbol, the speed of execution remains almost constant per character. The process and system of the present invention does not require the use of floating point notation. Furthermore, the process and system of the present invention does not require or use standard mathematical algorithms, addition or subtraction tables, or exponentiation.

摘要: A method and system to have network web servers that provide services to pass on the unit costs for each of the services and to have the web client computer track the usage of each service, maintain an up to date summary of each service from each provider and to periodically summarize all of the charges. The computed charge are reconciled with the bills from the providers of service, then the payments are sent after reconciliation. Any discrepancy between computed charges and billed charges may be paid at the computed totals with an explanation attached.

摘要: A system, operable on a plurality of different computer operating systems, for providing web browser access to the operating system desktop having icons displayed on a screen thereof, wherein the desktop icons provide links to executable programs of and information displayable by the operating system. The process comprises first determining, for each icon to be accessed, an executable program linked to the icon, a data file used by the program, and the location of the program and data file. Then the process comprises constructing a web page of the accessed icons and linked programs and data file by assigning a HTML tag to the program and data file of each icon. The HTML tag may include an optional parameter for use by the executable program. The web page is viewable on a web browser such that the HTML tags are displayed on the web page and executable by the web browser to execute the programs on the operating system. The process includes the step of periodically repeating the steps to update the web page by determining any additional icons to be accessed and assigning a HTML tag to the program and data file of each additional icon.

There is provided a plurality of client computers, a database accessible by each of the client computers, a network server through which the client computers may access files on a network, and a database accessible by the network server. The client computer database includes a list of addresses for accessing desired files on the network. The network server database includes a list of addresses for the desired files on the network and addresses of the client computers that have accessed the desired files on the network. The process comprises updating in the network server database at least one of the addresses for the desired files on the network and transferring from the network server database to the database of the client computers having addresses in the network server database the updated at least one of the addresses for the desired files on the network.

摘要: The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for correctly positioning the text of a hypertext markup language (html) file on a display screen linked to a computer such that there are no partial lines of text displayed and without the re-display of text that was displayed on a previous screen. By correctly positioning the text on the display screen, even when the user scrolls the text backwards and forwards, only entire lines of text are displayed which makes reading the text on the screen much more user friendly. By locating the html tags within the html source file, the number of lines of text in the file are determined and subsequently assigned to a screen row within the display screen such that only entire lines of text are displayable.

摘要: A method and system for printing web pages from an intra- or internet source with a client computer. The client computer is capable of accessing and viewing a web page from an intra- or internet source and has access to a program storage. The program storage device includes (i) an HTML source file containing a list of printable web pages and (ii) a program of instructions executable by the computer at a predetermined, modifiable time to print web pages from the intra- or internet source with the client computer. The program selects one or more of the printable web pages from the HTML source file, accesses the web pages selected from the HTML source file, and prints the accessed web pages. The printable web pages may be accessed on different levels of hierarchy in HTML files. The storage device also contains a plurality of different lists of printable web pages and a menu of each of the lists, whereby the method includes selecting from the menu a desired list and providing an HTML source file containing the desired list of printable web pages.

摘要: A data processing system has display means with a display screen requiring a screen display instruction with each line of textual comments in a file to be displayed on the screen and means for associating comments to be presented on the display screen of a data processing machine with programming data in a sequential format, with means for designating the comments by a label placed before the commencement of the comments. Means are provided for interpreting the label to insert print display command indicia associated with the textual comments for printing the comments upon the display screen. The label is interpreted by means of an external program.

摘要: An improved file access controller for a data processing system, and a method for the use thereof, and more particularly, an improved front end system for a file access control system, is described. The improvement is particularly useful for security audits and system maintenance of the file access controller. The improvement comprises an apparatus and method for effecting the steps of retrieving data describing authorized users which is stored within the file access controller, acquiring data describing users which is obtained from at least one other file system, comparing and sorting user data retrieved from the controller with user data obtained from the other file system so as to detect any mismatched data, resolving at least a portion of any mismatches by updating user data from the controller with data obtained from the other file system, combining the matched data and updated data and recording the combined data within the file access controller, and reporting any detected mismatched and non-updated data describing users.

摘要: A solution is presented to keep track of the URLs that have been visited within an HTML file, identify the location or exit point of the last line that was displayed on a screen in a multi-screen HTML file, and return to the exact exit point location upon reentry to the web page by computing which section of the HTML file to display on the screen, and then displaying this section. The identification of whether a web page has changed after it has been visited by a user is also presented. A cyclic redundancy check is performed, comparing the current cyclic redundancy number with the last cyclic redundancy number obtained when the screen of exited multi-screen HTML file was last visited. If the web page has changed, the user has the option of viewing the web page at the top screen or going to the screen that contains the last exit position of the HTML file that was previously viewed.
