Abstract: Devices, systems and techniques are used for cancer treatment. An example control device may be configured to be communicatively coupled to a radiation source of a radiotherapy device and a position sensor of the radiotherapy device. The example control device may be used to calculate, for a sliding window of a radiotherapy treatment, a positional error between: a measured target position signal determined from a series of images and sampled at the acquisition times of the images, and an estimated target position signal. The example control device may generate a computer-executable instruction configured to alter the radiotherapy treatment in response to the positional error violating a threshold.

Abstract: A quality assurance method for a radiotherapy device is disclosed. The method comprises disposing a phantom on a patient couch of the radiotherapy device, moving the patient couch to simulate motion of a subject, determining a measured value associated with the phantom, and comparing the measured value to an expected value. A radiotherapy device is also disclosed, the radiotherapy device comprising a radiation source configured to apply a radiation beam, a patient couch, a phantom disposable on the patient couch, and a controller communicatively coupled to the patient couch. A computer-readable medium storing instructions is also disclosed. A phantom for a radiotherapy device is also disclosed.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for detecting Cherenkov radiation produced during radiotherapy. A radiotherapy system comprises a patient receiving space for receiving a patient, a therapeutic radiation source, and a light detector configured to detect Cherenkov radiation subsequent to the emission of therapeutic radiation. Optionally, the system may make use of a optically transmissive dielectric to produce Cherenkov radiation.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of characterising physical properties of an attenuating element in a radiotherapy device having a radiotherapy radiation source and a radiotherapy radiation detector on respective sides of the attenuating element. The method comprises obtaining an average detected radiotherapy radiation intensity at two or more locations around the attenuating element, comparing the detected intensity at one location with the average intensity, and characterising a corresponding physical property based on the comparison.

Abstract: There are provided systems, methods and radiotherapy devices for monitoring the position of a subject during radiotherapy, which comprise obtaining an MR image slice of a subject that exhibits through-plane distortion, obtaining a pre-treatment image slice of the subject that corresponds to the MR image slice and exhibits through-plane distortion that corresponds to the through-plane distortion of the MR image slice, and comparing the MR image slice with the corresponding pre-treatment image slice.

Abstract: A method of determining the shape of a radiation beam of a radiotherapy system at a treatment position, the system comprising a radiation source and a multi-leaf collimator disposed between the radiation source and the treatment position. The multi-leaf collimator includes an array of moveable leaves positioned to intersect and block parts of the radiation beam to define the shape of the radiation beam at the treatment position. The leaves of a group are aligned such that the planes of the leaves in that group converge at a point displaced laterally from the radiation source. The method includes, for each leaf in the array positioned to intersect the radiation beam, determining a projected width with respect to the radiation beam, the projected width being greater than the thickness of the respective leaf, and using the projected leaf width to determine the shape of the radiation beam at the treatment position.
