摘要: Network devices (30) receiving first packets from first devices (10) and in response transmitting second packets to second devices (20), and receiving third packets from the second devices (20) and in response transmitting fourth packets to the first devices (10), get manipulation means (40) for manipulating information at layers higher than internet protocol layers of headers of packets for improving transport efficiencies between the first and second devices (10,20). The higher layer may comprise a transport control protocol layer-4 to allow the network devices (30) to take over acknowledging functions of the second devices (20) and to take over re-transmission functions of the first devices (10) and to support the second devices (20) through offering additional buffer space and to support the first devices (10) through offering extended/advanced stream management.

摘要: In methods for setting up communications between digital-subscriber-line terminal modems (13) and internet-service-providers (30) via digital-subscriber-line-access-multiplexers (2,20) and forwarders (3) of asynchronous-transfer-mode-networks (1) further comprising dynamic-host-configuration-protocol-relay-agents (4,40), first messages are sent from the terminal modems (13) to the agents (4,40) via the access multiplexers (2,20), which first messages comprise incoming logical identifiers defining couplings (14) between the terminal modems (13) and the access multiplexers (2,20), second messages are sent from the agents (4,40) to dynamic-host-configuration-protocol-servers (5) for receiving internet-protocol-addresses to be supplied to the terminal modems (13) via the agents (4,40). To be able to locate the agents (4,40) outside the forwarders (3), the agents (4,40) convert the first messages into the second messages at least by inserting outgoing logical identifiers defining couplings (6) between the access multiplexers (2,20) and the forwarders (3), and the forwarders (3) are informed about relationships between the Internet-Protocol-addresses and the outgoing logical identifiers. The forwarders (3) then have sufficient knowlegde to find the right (part of the) access multiplexer (2,20).

摘要: The present invention is related to a method to forward an Ethernet packet in an Ethernet based access network. It comprises the step of receiving the Ethernet packet at a network access node being part of the access network and further the step of transforming at the network access node a first Ethernet MAC address contained in the Ethernet packet into a second Ethernet MAC address. Either the first or the second Ethernet MAC address comprises subscriber or subscriber line identification. Subsequently the step of continuing the communication protocol is performed.

摘要: A point-to-multipoint telecommunication system can be made more flexible by providing upstream units with generators and locators for generating at least two subsequent overhead cells located next to each other and neighbouring a larger number of data cells for supplying system information. Downstream units are provided with detectors for detecting the subsequent overhead cells. This new signal flame structure allows a larger number of data cells to be exchanged without being interrupted by an overhead cell. Each cell consists of at least 53 bytes in accordance with the Asynchronous Transfer Mode or ATM standard. The at least two overhead cells comprise two overhead cells for supporting 54 data cells, or comprise three overhead cells for supporting 103 data cells. The point-to-multipoint telecommunication systems comprise passive optical networks, with upstream units corresponding to line terminators, and with downstream units corresponding to network terminators.
