    Abstract: An engine cover system for joining a cover with an intake manifold body. A plurality of structural ribs project from an external surface of the body including a pair of parallel ribs. Each parallel rib carries an integrally-molded U-shaped receiver strip extending transversely from the parallel ribs to form slots having closed ends proximate a first edge of the body and slot openings defined by respective edges of the receiver strips. The engine cover is comprised of a shroud, first and second radial arms, and first and second hinge pins projecting from the first and second radial arms, respectively. The hinge pins are configured to slide into the slots via the slot openings into the closed ends. First and second elastomeric ferrules are installed on the first and second hinge pins, respectively, configured to be compressed by the receiver strips when captured at the closed ends.

    Abstract: An intake manifold for an internal combustion engine comprises upper and lower shell members with outer flanges. The shell members define a manifold cavity having a plenum and a plurality of runners. The upper shell includes an upper post formed as an indentation into the plenum with a tunnel wall and a terminus wall. The lower shell includes a lower post formed as an indentation into the plenum with a tunnel wall and a terminus wall. The terminus walls are attached to provide a brace across the plenum. One of the posts includes an orifice penetrating the tunnel wall. A sealed coupler extends from the one post and is adapted to receive a secondary gas for mixing within the plenum. Thus, secondary gases can be introduced without additional structures that could impede gas flow and could increase manufacturing cost.

    Abstract: Various systems for reducing noise, vibration, and harshness in an intake manifold are provided. In one example, an intake manifold includes one or more runners, a plenum fluidically coupled to the one or more runners, an inlet having a wall thickness, and a first and a second indentation, where the first indentation protrudes radially inward at a first inflection point in a first direction, the second indentation protrudes radially inward at a second inflection point in a second direction substantially anti-parallel to the first direction, and the wall thickness is maintained at the first and second inflection points. In this way, noise, vibration, and harshness associated with the intake manifold and its inlet may be reduced without additional weight, cost, or complexity.
