An image processing apparatus includes a reception unit, an acquisition unit, an enlarging/reducing unit, and a detector. The reception unit receives two image data to be compared. The acquisition unit acquires character sizes of characters contained in the two image data received by the reception unit. The enlarging/reducing unit enlarges or reduces the image data received by the reception unit such that the character sizes of the characters contained in the two image data acquired by the acquisition unit coincide with each other. The detector detects a difference between the two image data which have been enlarged or reduced by the enlarging/reducing unit such that the character sizes of the characters contained in the two image data coincide with each other.

An image processing apparatus includes a difference detector that detects a difference between two images according to a set detection condition, a receiving unit that receives the two images as comparison targets and a target difference image that is desirable in difference detection of the two images, and a setting unit that selects a detection condition from predetermined detection conditions and sets the selected detection condition in the difference detector, the selected detection condition causing a difference image that is acquired by the difference detector from the two images received by the receiving unit to be closer to the target difference image.

An image processing apparatus includes a receiving unit, a detecting unit, and a generating unit. The receiving unit receives two pieces of image data to be compared with each other. The detecting unit detects the difference between the two pieces of image data received by the receiving unit. If a drawing element in the image data where the difference is detected by the detecting unit is dense with modified parts to such an extent that it is estimated to be difficult to identify the content of modification in the display of the difference, the generating unit generates difference image data indicating the difference between the two pieces of image data for comparison by adding an auxiliary image to highlight the content of the detected difference.
