    Abstract: A water-dispensing system of a household refrigerator has a valve and an inlet connected to a pressurized water supply source for controllably passing water through and from the refrigerator. A freezing tank is positioned in the water-dispensing system downstream of the valve and at a location wherein only a middle portion of the tank is subjected to below-freezing temperatures for forming ice therein. The freezing tank has movable walls for passing water over the ice in response to opening the valve. The water is thereby chilled by the ice prior to discharge from the water-dispensing system.

    Abstract: A refrigerator including an ice dispenser and crusher in a freezer compartment and an ice delivery passage through the refrigerator door for delivering ice exterior of the cabinet. The passage includes a normally closed closure member and a heater and is so constructed and arranged within the door as to maintain the various portions of the passage at temperatures preventing the accumulation of ice slush and water in the passage and the freezing of the closure member.

    Abstract: An ice dispenser comprising a receptacle for storing ice pieces and having a discharge opening in the front wall thereof contains a dispensing means that includes a rotatable feed section having the front end thereof positioned adjacent the discharge opening. The feed section comprises a collar containing a double-blade screw auger which forms with the inner surface of the collar two diametrically opposed helical passages for conveying ice pieces entering the rear end of the feed section to the discharge opening upon rotation of the feed section. The feed section is so designed that the passages are of a gradually increasing cross section from the inlet or rear ends thereof to the discharge or front ends thereof in order to prevent internal wedging of ice pieces which have entered the passages.

    Abstract: 1,221,140. Feeding ice blocks. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 11 Sept., 1968 [18 Sept., 1967], No. 43130/68. Heading B8A. Ice from a refrigerator falls into receptacle 4 and is discharged therefrom through opening 60 by means of conveyer 50, which comprises conveyer part 18 and conveyer part 61 which is mounted rigidly on the conveyer shaft and includes two passages 63, and scoop 70. The ice blocks are moved leftwards by conveyer part 18 so as to provide a surplus of blocks at the entry to conveyer part 61. Conveyer part 61 rotates as part of the conveyer so that scoop 70 entrains a block 72 which as the conveyer rotates moves up to position 72 1 and then slides forward into position 75 1 to be subsequently discharged at 60. A surplus of blocks thus passes through the conveyer portion 61 and is held up by wall 74 forming part of the conveyer. In this way the conveyer discharges a constant number of blocks per rotation from the blocks waiting at 74.
