Abstract: A lightning arrester having voltage-grading resistors that generate heat due to leakage currents therethrough, in combination with heat exchanger means adapted to cool the grading resistors and other internal components. In one form of the invention the grading resistors are biased into contact with the interior wall of the insulating housing of the lightning arrester by resilient spring means to assure optimum thermal conduction between the resistors and the housing.
