An oil filter, for an I.C. engine, comprises a tubular pleated element 30 of resin-impregnated paper, having the flow resistance of one portion C thereof increased by compressing the pleats together and/or by adding a further filtering sheet 37 of similar porosity, outside or inside, whereby this portion takes a smaller flow rate per unit area than the rest and acts as a reserve of filtering capacity. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates a filter having compressed pleats only and Figs. 2-4 (not shown) a sliding jig whereby the pleats are so spaced. The further sheet may be bonded to the pleats all round its periphery (Figs. 5, 6, not shown) or at the ends only, with its sides merely folded between adjacent pleats (Figs. 8, 9, not shown), and may have a central aperture 39 and corner or side discontinuities in sealing, whereby it is by-passed when clogged. Pleats may be spaced by dimples (14, 15) and their ends sealed individually (16) and/or to end caps (Fig. 11, not shown) by adhesive.

摘要： In an internal combustion engine air intake control system in which a valve is actuated by a vacuum motor in response to engine intake vacuum so as to control an admixture of heated air with ambient air in an engine air intake passage, and in which the action of said intake vacuum on said motor is modified by a thermo-responsive air bleed valve which bleeds air into said motor at a rate which increases with intake air temperature, a thermo-responsive non-return valve is disposed in the bleed valve housing and is constructed and arranged so that, when the engine is cold the non-return valve is closed but permits fluid flow from said vacuum motor to said vacuum source but not in the opposite direction, but, when the engine has warmed up, opens and permits free communication in either direction between said vacuum motor and said vacuum source, this arrangement ensuring that sudden acceleration of the engine before it has warmed up will not result in a sudden surge of cold air being delivered to the engine.

摘要： A filter element suitable in particular for a liquid fuel filter is formed by folding a strip of crepe filter paper on itself about a medial longitudinal fold line to bring the two halves of one face of the sheet into apposition and then folding the folded sheet in accordion fashion about a regularly spaced series of transverse fold lines, the opposite face of the sheet having lines of adhesive applied to it adjacent its longitudinal edges so that, on each half of the sheet the free edge of one-half of each pleat is sealed to the free edge of an apposed half of an adjacent pleat, the strip being formed into a zigzag folded pocket, the assembly of pleats thus formed being joined at its opposite ends to form a hollow tubular filter element.

摘要： In order to enable the air intake tube of an air cleaner and silencer to be moved to a warm air or a cold air position the air intake tube and a spigot on the air cleaner casing have cooperating shoulders between which a circular spring is interposed and the end of the intake tube and the spigot have interengageable castellations by which the intake tube is secured against rotation from one position by the action of the spring but can be pulled axially to disengage the castellations and permit rotation of the tube to another position relative to the cleaner casing.

摘要： In a liquid filter, particularly an internal combustion engine oil filter, a plastics support tube, externally grooved to provide drainage channels, fits within one end of the element and has a projecting castellated portion and a flange which seals against said one end of the element, whilst a combined annular seal and relief valve member of elastomeric material has an outer flange which normally overlies inlet openings in an end plate of the filter casing, an inner peripheral portion sealed to the end plate around a central outlet opening in the end plate, and a coaxial neck which fits within the support tube and seals against the latter adjacent the castellated portion, the said outer flange being resiliently deflected by liquid entering the inlet openings and the seal between the neck and support tube being broken, to permit a bypass flow of liquid directly between the inlet and outlet openings when the pressure on the neck, through the castellations, exceeds a predetermined value.
