    Abstract: A perforating gun for making perforations in a well, the perforating gun including a carrier extending along a longitudinal axis X and having a bore; a tube extending along the longitudinal axis X and having a radius smaller than a radius of the carrier so that the tube slides inside the bore of the carrier; a shaped charge placed inside the tube and configured to make a hole through the carrier; and a scallop formed in a body of the carrier, corresponding to a location of the shaped charge along the longitudinal axis X. The scallop has a side surface that makes an angle α with the longitudinal axis X, and the angle α is different from 90 degrees.

    Abstract: A shaped charge is configured to make a non-circular perforation into a casing. The shaped charge includes a case having a side wall that extends between an open top region and a base; an asymmetric initiation insert configured to fit within the case; an explosive material placed over the asymmetric initiation insert and in contact with the side wall of the case; and a liner placed over the explosive material, to hold the explosive material within the case. The asymmetric initiation insert has a body that includes first and second channels that extend from a bottom surface to a top surface of the body, so that a detonation at the bottom surface is directed to first and second initiation points, that correspond to the first and second channels.

    Abstract: A loading tube is configured to receive one or more shaped charges to form a perforating gun. The loading tube includes a tubular body extending along a longitudinal axis; a cord passage formed into the tubular body; a retention cutoff formed into the tubular body and configured to receive a detonator cord; and a holding element extending into the retention cutoff and being integrally made with a wall of the tubular body, wherein the holding element is configured to hold the detonator cord into the retention cutoff. The cord passage is configured to receive the detonator cord from a bore of the tubular body and to direct the detonator cord outside the bore of the tubular body.

    Abstract: A perforating gun includes first and second shaped charges. Each of the shaped charges includes a case, a liner, and an explosive. Each liner has a subtended angle about an apex of the liner. A first jet formed by the first shaped charge creates a first entrance hole in a first region of a well casing, and a second jet formed by the second shaped charge, creates a second entrance hole in a second region of the casing. The second region is below the first region in the casing. A ratio of a diameter of the first entrance hole to a diameter of the second entrance hole is 1 when the subtended angle is between 100° and 110°, the ratio is less than 1 when the subtended angle is between 90° and 100°, and the ratio is greater than 1 when the subtended angle is greater than 110°.

    Abstract: A shaped charge comprising a case, a liner positioned within the case, and an explosive filled within the case. The liner is shaped with a subtended angle ranging from 100° to 120° about an apex, a radius, and an aspect ratio such that a jet formed with the explosive creates an entrance hole in a well casing. The jet creates a perforation tunnel in a hydrocarbon formation, wherein a diameter of the jet, a diameter of the entrance hole diameter, and a width and length of the perforation tunnel are substantially constant and unaffected with changes in design and environmental factors such as a thickness and composition of the well casing, position of the charge in the perforating gun, position of the perforating gun in the well casing, a water gap in the wellbore casing, and type of the hydrocarbon formation.

    Abstract: A perforating gun system with at least one gun. Each of the perforating guns have charges disposed in a gun carrier that are angled to the longitudinal axis of the gun to achieve a predetermined proppant transport profile into clusters within a stage in a well casing. The perforation tunnels may also have burrs on each side of the casing and acts in initially aiding proppant transport during fracture treatment. A method of tuning a cluster to achieve a desired fracturing treatment based on a feedback from another cluster includes selecting a hole diameter, a hole angle for creating an angled opening, a discharge coefficient, and a proppant efficiency. Moreover, a method of improving perforation charge efficiency.
