Abstract: There is provided an optical system comprising a light conduit. The light conduit comprises a first light pipe, a second light pipe, and a first bridge to mechanically couple the first light pipe to the second light pipe. The first light pipe has a first inlet to receive a first input light signal and a first outlet to emit at least a portion of the first input light signal to form a first output light signal. Moreover, the second light pipe has a second inlet to receive a second input light signal and a second outlet to emit at least a portion of the second input light signal to form a second output light signal. Furthermore, the first bridge has a first end mechanically coupled to the first light pipe and a second end mechanically coupled to the second light pipe.

Abstract: A light engine includes multiple laser diodes, each configured to emit laser light, and a light source unit having multiple channels, each of the channels is associated with one of the laser diodes and configured to transmit the laser light emitted from the corresponding laser diode. The channels may be, for example, fiber optic strands or optical pathways within a channeled lightguide. The light engine further includes a ferrule coupled to the light source unit and configured to receive the laser light from the light source unit and to output a collimated beam of laser light comprising each wavelength of laser light emitted by the laser diodes.

Abstract: A micro-projection system for use in small electronic devices can benefit from an optical assembly equipped with light-absorbing apertures. The light-absorbing apertures can aid in reducing or eliminating stray light and associated ghost images from appearing on the display of the projection system. Modular units that include laminated stacks of such apertures, along with spacers, can be inserted into air gaps within the optical assembly. Such stacked units can be made cost effective to manufacture in high volume.

Abstract: A light engine includes a housing, a lens barrel disposed at a first surface of the housing opposite a second surface of the housing, a dichroic combiner, and first, second, and third microLED panel assemblies, each having a microLED panel coupled to a connector interface via a flex cable. The first microLED panel assembly is disposed at a third surface of the housing and arranged such that the flex cable extends first toward the barrel assembly and then turns back toward the second surface. The second microLED panel assembly is disposed at a fourth surface of the housing and arranged such that the flex cable extends first toward the barrel assembly and then turns back toward the second surface. The third microLED panel assembly is disposed at the second surface of the housing and arranged such that the flex cable extends toward either the third surface or the fourth surface.

Abstract: A display system includes one or more low-power laser diodes, each producing an emission. The emissions are directed to an optical element that affects the direction or divergence of the emissions. The optical element redirects the emissions toward a steering element such as a MEMS-actuated mirror, or a combination of such mirrors. The steering element directs the emissions toward the incoupler of a waveguide acting as an optical combiner. The emissions propagate through the waveguide and are extracted by an outcoupler in the direction of an observer. By scanning the direction of the beam-steering element along one or several directions, an image may be formed.
