    Abstract: A method for making smart glasses includes obtaining a monocoque temple pre-form made as a one-piece seamless shell structure with shell walls enclosing a hollow compartment. The hollow compartment has an open end and a bottom opposite the open end. The method further includes inserting a first pre-assembled smart glasses components module into the hollow compartment through the open end of the hollow compartment and disposing the first pre-assembled smart glasses components module at a bottom of the hollow compartment. The method further includes inserting a second pre-assembled smart glasses components module through the open end of the hollow compartment, electrically connecting the second pre-assembled smart glasses components module to the first pre-assembled smart glasses components module, and attaching the monocoque temple pre-form to a frame of the smart glasses.

    Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for wearable heads-up displays (WHUD) are described. A WHUD includes a front frame with two openings each with one recess which extends along at least a portion of the periphery of the openings, two arms including frame portions and temple portions, two lenses, a projector to generate light, and a holographic optical element (HOE) carried by a lens to redirect light to an eye of a user. Frame portions insert into the recesses and are held in place when the lenses are inserted into the recesses, wherein when the WHUD is assembled the projector and HOE are positioned correctly to create a display for the user. The assembled WHUD is inflexible where the front frame and arms are attached such that when worn the projector maintains a fixed position relative to the HOE and the display remains undistorted and visible to the user.

    Abstract: Techniques are described for providing stabilized display components in a wearable heads-up display. A hinge is provided that includes at least two portions rotatable relative to each other, such that each portion may be directly coupled to an optical combiner or a light engine. A bias element may be provided to bias arms of a WHUD towards an unfolded configuration. The bias element and surrounding structure may inhibit movement of arms of the WHUD between the unfolded configuration and a folded configuration.

    Abstract: An eyewear display includes a frame comprising two lens rims and a nose bridge, a first lens rim of the two lens rims holding a lens stack including a first lens (e.g., a world-side lens) and a waveguide. A detachable rim piece is attached to the first lens rim, and, upon being detached from the first lens rim, the detachable rim piece exposes a loading cavity housing a lens retention component. The lens retention component is removable from the loading cavity to insert a second lens with a vision correction prescription within the lens stack of the first lens rim. The lens retention component is then re-inserted into the loading cavity to fix the second lens (e.g., an eye-side lens) into the lens stack of the first lens rim. The detachable rim piece is then re-attached to cover the loading cavity and the lens retention component.

    Abstract: Systems and devices for controlling camera privacy in wearable devices are described. A camera cover can be provided that is movable between a closed position and an open position. In the closed position, the camera cover can occlude a field of view of a camera, such that the camera cannot capture meaningful data. In the open position, the camera cover can be at least partially out of the field of view of the camera, such that the camera can capture meaningful data. The camera cover can be positioned within a housing of the wearable device, and an actuator can be positioned external to the housing of the wearable device.     Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for eyebox expansion in wearable heads-up displays (WHUD) are described. A WHUD includes a support structure, a scanning laser projector (SLP), a split mirror, an optical splitter, and a holographic combiner. When the WHUD is worn on the head of a user the holographic combiner is positioned in a field of view of the user. The SLP scans light signals onto the split mirror which reflects the light signals onto the optical splitter. The optical splitter redirects the light signals towards the holographic combiner such that subsets of the light signals originate from spatially-separated virtual positions. The holographic combiner redirects the light to the eye resulting in spatially-separated exit pupils. The spatial separation of the exit pupils results in an expanded eyebox. The indirect path of light from SLP to optical splitter enables a smaller and therefore more aesthetically desirable design for the WHUD.
