Abstract: Systems and techniques directed at an electronic device with a centrally located under-display image sensor are disclosed. The electronic device includes a first image sensor and a second image sensor, the second image sensor being an under-display sensor located at substantially a center of a display of the electronic device. The first image sensor may be located adjacent to an edge of the display. The second image sensor is configured to capture an eye gaze of a user and provide the captured eye gaze to correct the eye gaze of images captured by the first image sensor. The first image sensor may also be an under-display image sensor. During video communications with the electronic device, a user usually looks at the center of the display of the electronic device. The second image sensor is configured to capture the correct eye gaze of the user during video communications.

A mobile computing device includes an emissive display panel and a spectrometer positioned below the emissive display panel. The emissive display panel includes a first periodic pattern of pixels that include one or more LEDs and a second periodic pattern of circuit elements that control the pixels, where the first and second periodic patterns are configured to diffract light received from outside the device, which passes through the emissive display, and where the diffraction is wavelength-dependent. The spectrometer is configured to detect intensities of different wavelength ranges of the diffracted light.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a display panel having a first pixel area having a first pixel density and a second pixel area having a second pixel density higher than the first, the panel configured to generate images viewable from a front side and a sensor positioned at the back side arranged to receive incident light transmitted from the front to the back through the first pixel area. The first pixel area has light emitting pixels and signal lines electrically connecting pixel circuits associated with the pixels, and the panel includes a layer having a light blocking material patterned to provide apertures to transmit the incident light between some of the light emitting pixels and the signal lines and to block the incident light from the pixel circuits and the signal lines. Apertures can have different dimensions.

Abstract: A display configuration to extend the light emitting and touch sensitive portion of a display panel into areas normally reserved for other light devices is disclosed. In the configuration, light devices and the display panel are configured to operate together. The display panel may include an aperture through the display panel to provide an unobstructed light path to a light device. The display panel may also include a routing area to provide space for data lines feeding pixels to be rerouted around the aperture. The routing area is partially obstructed by data lines but otherwise transparent. Accordingly, some display devices may be positioned behind the routing area and still operate.

Abstract: A display configuration to facilitate imaging through the display is disclosed. The imaging can be achieved by positioning a camera behind a transmit/receive area (120,122) of a display. The transmit/receive area is configured to reduce the interaction between the light propagating through the display and circuit elements of the display. The configuration of the transmit/receive area can be characterized by reduced pixel density, rearranged circuit elements (1242), and as light blocking layer (1222, 1260) to prevent light from diffracting from gaps formed by circuit elements (1242).

Abstract: This document describes systems and techniques directed to touch sensor integration with enlarged active area displays. In aspects, a display includes a cover layer, an array of pixels, and a plurality of transistors that control an electrical activation of one or more pixels of the array of pixels. The plurality of transistors define a smaller area than the array of pixels such that at least one pixel of the array of pixels extends beyond the area defined by the plurality of transistors and above driving circuitry (“extended emitting area”). Variable pixel and/or transistor densities can support the extended emitting area. A touch sensor is integrated between the cover layer and the array of pixels and is operatively coupled to one or more touch trace routings that are, at least partially, disposed between the cover layer and one or more pixels within the extended emitting area.

Abstract: This document describes systems and techniques directed at incorporating a non-uniform aperture region in a transmittance-limiting layer, such as a color-on-encapsulation (COE) layer, to increase a transmittance of electromagnetic energy receivable by and/or radiated from an under-display sensor positioned under a display panel. The non-uniform aperture layer maintains or increases the transmittance of the electromagnetic energy while being less visually conspicuous than a uniform aperture region. In aspects, a display panel stack includes a cover layer, a pixel array, and a transmittance-limiting layer disposed between the cover layer and the pixel array configured to at least partially absorb electromagnetic energy incident at a surface of the transmittance-limiting layer. The transmittance-limiting layer includes a non-uniform aperture region having a plurality of apertures configured to at least partially permit the transmission of the electromagnetic energy that is detectable by an under-display sensor.
