Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described that implement a hearable with on-head detection using a single optical sensor. The hearable determines on-head detection based on a distance measured by the single optical sensor being less than a distance limit associated with on-head detection. A shape of the hearable's housing causes the hearable to have at least one orientation while at static equilibrium on a flat surface. This orientation causes the flat surface to be within the field-of-view of the optical sensor and causes a distance between the flat surface and the optical sensor to be greater than the distance limit associated with on-head detection. In this way, false positives associated with on-head detection can be mitigated without adding additional sensors (e.g., another infrared sensor, another proximity sensor, or a motion sensor) and without utilizing more complex optical sensors that determine additional information about the object, such as material composition.

Abstract: A camera assembly includes an image sensor having a field of view corresponding to a scene, an infrared (IR) illuminator configured to selectively illuminate the scene, and a single-piece cover element positioned in front of the image sensor and the IR illuminator such that light from the IR illuminator is directed through the cover element along a first light path and light from the scene passes through the cover element along a second light path prior to entering the image sensor, the cover element including a first portion between the first light path and the second light path, the first portion being substantially opaque to IR and/or visible light.

Abstract: Various arrangements are presented that detail a wall mounting system for a wireless sensor device, such as a wireless temperature sensor device. A flanged fastener that includes a first flange and a second flange may be present. The first flange can prevent the flanged fastener from being inserted more than a defined distance into a surface. The second flange may be removably insertable into a mounting hole present on a backplate of the wireless sensor. The system can further include a wireless sensor unit that includes the backplate. The wireless sensor is removably attachable to the flanged fastener while the flanged fastener is inserted into the surface.

Abstract: The various implementations described herein include methods, devices, and systems for illuminating and capturing scenes. In one aspect, a video camera assembly includes: (1) an image sensor having a field of view corresponding to a scene; (2) infrared illuminators to selectively illuminate the scene; and (3) a single-piece cover positioned in front of the image sensor and the illuminators such that light from the illuminators is directed through the cover and light from the scene passes through the cover prior to entering the image sensor, including: (a) a first portion corresponding to the image sensor and substantially transparent to visible light and IR light; (b) a second portion corresponding to the one or more IR illuminators and coated to be substantially transparent to IR light; and (c) a third portion between the first portion and the second portion and coated to be substantially opaque to IR and visible light.
