Abstract: An embodiment of a Wearable Computer apparatus includes a first portable unit for data gathering and providing a natural user interface, and a second portable unit for processing the gathered data from the first unit and taking an action in respond to the received data. The first portable unit includes an eyeglass frame, at least one first scene camera disposed on the eyeglass frame for capturing at least one scene image corresponding to a field of view of a user, at least one microphone, one speaker and one LED to create a natural user interface, and at least one first processor to receive data from the data gathering units in the first portable unit and communicating that data to the second portable unit. The second portable unit is in communication with the first portable unit and includes at least one second processor configured for receiving data from the first processor. The second portable unit also includes at least one interface of a digital personal assistant that receives at least one scene image from the first portable unit and initiates an object recognition procedure to recognize an object in the at least one scene image. Based on the at least one recognized object, the digital personal assistant takes an action that may include providing a feedback to the user via light or audio.

Abstract: A method of performing better controlled switching between day mode and night mode imaging in a camera, where those illuminants contributing to the ambient light in day mode are considered when determining the visible light during night mode. Characteristic values of those illuminants are mixed with several levels of IR light to simulate the presence of an IR illuminator, and these characteristic values are compared to corresponding values derived from the color components of the ambient light in night mode in order to determine the IR proportion, and from that the amount of visible light.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a near eye assembly having a retaining structure (e.g., a spectacle frame or head up display mounted on a helmet) that is configured to be positioned in proximity to the eye of a user of the assembly. An optical combiner may be mounted on the retaining structure in front of the user eye. The optical combiner may at least partially transmit elements of a scene in front of the assembly through the combiner. In addition, the optical combiner may receive a visible radiation transmission derived from a scene, and/or a visual transmission such as a presentation of data or a marker, and redirect the transmission back to the user's eye.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer program products for thermal contrast determinations are provided. An example imaging system includes a first infrared (IR) imaging device that generates first IR image data of a field of view of the first IR imaging device and a computing device connected with the first IR imaging device. The computing device receives probe temperature data from a temperature probe indicative of an external environment of the imaging system and receives the first IR image data from the first IR imaging device. The computing device determines background temperature data based upon the first IR image data, determines gas temperature data based upon the probe temperature data, and determines a thermal contrast for each pixel based upon a comparison between the background temperature data and the gas temperature data. The computing device further determines a detection limit for each pixel as a function of thermal contrast.

Abstract: An illustrative apparatus may obtain an image frame captured by an image capture system in accordance with an auto-exposure parameter set to a first setting. The image frame may include a first image component associated with visible light and a second image component associated with non-visible light. The apparatus may determine a first auto-exposure gain based on the first image component and may determine a second auto-exposure gain based on the second image component. Based on the first and second auto-exposure gains, the apparatus may determine a second setting for the auto-exposure parameter. The second setting may be configured to be used by the image capture system to capture a subsequent image frame. Corresponding apparatuses, systems, and methods for managing auto-exposure of multi-component image frames are also disclosed.

Abstract: Imaging systems with an integrated infrared cut off filter and methods for operating same. One example system includes an image sensor and an electronic processor coupled to the image sensor. The image sensor includes a plurality of image recording pixels and a plurality of reserved pixels. A subset of the plurality of reserved pixels are covered by an infrared cut-off filter. The electronic processor is configured to determine a first visible light intensity for the subset of the plurality of reserved pixels. The electronic processor is further configured to control the image sensor to operate in one of a day mode and a night mode based on the first visible light intensity.
